Final Score: Denver 98 - Orlando 109
Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Dwight Howard scored 23 points and had a season-high 24 rebounds as the Orlando Magic defeated the Denver Nuggets, 109-98, at Amway Arena.
Rashard Lewis scored a team-high 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Orlando. Hedo Turkoglu and Brian Cook added 18 points for the Magic, who stopped a two-game losing streak.
"I felt real good going into the game, my shot was falling and coach was calling the plays for me," said Lewis. "It wasn't that I was just shooting three's, I was going with what the defense gave me, doing a lot of penetration, getting to the free throw line, took the three when they gave it to me. I just took advantage of the opportunity."
The Magic have won 15 in a row at home over the Nuggets.
Carmelo Anthony had a game-high 32 points and six rebounds before fouling out, and Allen Iverson pitched in with 21 points and a team-high seven assists for the Nuggets, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
"They just got hot," said Anthony. "Lewis took over in the third, Turkoglu came back in the fourth and took over the last few minutes. There wasn't really anything we could do about it. Throughout the whole game I thought we did a good job on Howard not giving him anything in the paint and making it tough for him. Once Lewis and Turkoglu got away and got hot it opened it up for Howard."
With 3:47 remaining in the third quarter, Orlando was trailing 67-66, then Lewis caught fire and scored the next seven points, sparking a 10-2 run that gave the Magic the lead at 76-69 to end the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Nuggets got the game back to within five when Iverson hit a jump shot to make the margin 85-80 with 8:17 left. However, Denver couldn't get any closer.
Turkoglu got hot, as he scored 12 of his 18 points in the final quarter. That included a pair of three-pointers to help hold off the Nuggets and allow the Magic to cruise down the stretch.
Denver led 28-26 after the first quarter, but the Magic briefly went ahead a couple of times, but the game was tied at 48 at intermission.
