Final Score: San Antonio 112 - Cleveland 105
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Manu Ginobili exploded for 46 points, putting San Antonio on his back in the fourth quarter with his torrid outside shooting, and the Spurs held off the Cleveland Cavaliers, 112-105, at Quicken Loans Arena.
Ginobili hit eight of his 11 three-point attempts, scored 18 points in the final stanza, and finished his night a blazing 15-for-20 from the floor to help the Spurs win their second straight and wrap up a season-long, nine-game "Rodeo Road Trip" with a record of 6-3.
"It was a special game," Ginobili said after his impressive performance. "I was feeling really good from the beginning. The first couple of shots went in, but in the second half, it got even better. I felt that every shot I was taking was going to go in and it did, so, of course, I felt great."
Tim Duncan had 23 points and 13 rebounds for San Antonio, which shot 48.7 percent as a team and committed just five turnovers.
LeBron James went for 39 points and nine assists to lead Cleveland, which has dropped two of three and three of its last five. Larry Hughes, who had a season-high 40 points in Monday's win at Orlando, scored 26 and grabbed six rebounds in a losing cause.
Cleveland trailed by just two with under four minutes to go before Ginobili unloaded his final onslaught from the perimeter to put the Cavs away. First it was a right-wing three for a 100-95 lead, then a step-back triple from the top of the key with a defender right in his face, pushing the advantage to eight.
James scored in the lane to make it 103-97, but Ginobili, hounded by Donyell Marshall, got his defender in the air and drew a foul that led to two free throws for an eight-point bulge with 2:34 to go. Damon Jones got Cleveland back within five with his own three, but that was as close as the Cavs would get down the stretch.
Ginobili hit a cutting Ime Udoka for a layup off an inbounds pass, then drew a foul and knocked down a pair of free throws for a 109-100 Spurs lead with just over a minute remaining, effectively putting the Cavs away.
"Manu Ginobili's a bad boy," said Cavs head coach Mike Brown. "He had a night tonight. You know, 105, 102 - that's enough points for us to win a basketball game, but he was hot. We also allowed the referees to get to us. We allowed some of the no-calls and some of the things going on on the floor to get to us, and that's usually not us. Usually we play through that type of stuff and I thought tonight it affected us some."
Udoka finished with 12 points off the San Antonio bench, while Bruce Bowen was also in double figures with 10.
No Cavalier outside of James and Hughes was in double digits, though Jones, Marshall and Devin Brown each ended their night with nine points.
Hughes' torrid shooting carried over from Monday into the first quarter, as he scored 11 points to lead the Cavs to a 24-18 lead going to the second. His jumper with less than six minutes to go in the half pushed the Cleveland advantage to 40-30, but a late Spurs surge made it a one-point game, 47-46, at the break.
A 10-2 run to begin the second half pushed the Cavs lead back to nine, but the Spurs countered with a 15-4 spurt of their own, capped by Duncan's bank shot, to take a 67-64 lead with under three minutes to go in the third.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas fed James for a backdoor alley oop, Hughes banked home a three with the shot clock running down, and Marshall hit a pair of free throws to complete an 11-4 Cavs burst to close the period, and they held a 75-71 lead.
Ginobili's three-ball had San Antonio back within one, 83-82, with 8:48 remaining, and when Bowen knocked one down from beyond the arc just ahead of the six-minute mark, the Spurs led, 90-88.
