East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Marcus Williams scored a season-high 25 points, six of which came in overtime, to lead the Nets to a 110-102 victory over the Chicago Bulls in New Jersey's first game since point guard Jason Kidd was traded to Dallas.

On Tuesday, Kidd was sent to the Mavericks, along with forwards Malik Allen and Antoine Wright, in exchange for guard Devin Harris, swingmen Maurice Ager and Trenton Hassell, center DeSagana Diop, forward Keith Van Horn, first- round draft picks in 2008 and 2010, and cash considerations reportedly said to be about $3 million. Harris was out for Wednesday's game with an ankle injury. He missed his last 10 games as a Maverick.

"I think that was all put behind us yesterday, it's now about how we can get a win," New Jersey's Vince Carter said of the Kidd trade.

Williams, who served as a temporary replacement for Kidd, shot 9-of-18 from the field including 3-of-5 from three-point range.

Carter poured in a season-high 33 points, pulled down nine rebounds and doled out seven assists for the Nets, who have won four of their last five games. Richard Jefferson donated 24 points, while Josh Boone tallied 15 boards.

Joe Smith scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bulls, who have lost three of four overall. Ben Gordon added 14 points, while Luol Deng gave 13.

Kirk Hinrich and Andres Nocioni had 11 points each, as Thabo Sefolosha, Chris Duhon and Tyrus Thomas each had 10 points in defeat.

Jefferson's reverse layup put the Nets up 98-96 just past the two-minute mark of overtime.

Moments later, Jefferson was fouled and drained both shots from the line to put the Nets on top 100-96. Gordon immediately responded with a long jumper to cut the Bulls' deficit to two points.

With 42.7 seconds left in overtime, Jefferson hit another pair from the line to put New Jersey up 102-98. Williams added another two from the line about 10 seconds later to make it 104-98.

The Nets would never be tested the rest of the way.

"This is discouraging for us, I thought our guys ran hard," Chicago head coach Jim Boylan said. "In overtime they pulled away and we couldn't get anything going."

Chicago held a 23-20 lead after 12 minutes of play, but trailed 51-44 at the break.

A Carter finger-roll with 1.1 on the clock gave the Nets a 71-69 lead they would take into the final stanza.

New Jersey's lead hovered around four points before Sefolosha hit two shots, with Gordon and Thomas adding two points apiece, to put Chicago ahead 83-79 with 6:35 to play.

A Williams jumper sparked a 12-4 New Jersey run. Williams also closed out the run with a jump shot that gave the Nets a 91-87 cushion at the 2:40 mark.

Two Smith free throws preceded a Duhon trey from the left wing, those five points put the Bulls on top by a point, 92-91.

The lead see-sawed until Carter hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe with 49.2 ticks left to tie the game at 94.

Each team was unable to capitalize on its next possession and the game was sent to overtime.
