Final Score: Detroit 116 - Phoenix 86
Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Rasheed Wallace scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds as Detroit routed Phoenix, 116-86, at US Airways Center.
Richard Hamilton and Jarvis Hayes both added 18 points for the Central Division-leading Pistons, who opened a four-game road swing by winning for the 12th time in 14 games.
Chauncey Billups played a brilliant floor game and finished with 14 points and 11 assists, while Antonio McDyess chipped in with 12 points and 13 boards.
"This was a big game for us, you know how we are when we play against other elite teams, we lock in, we lock in big time," Billups said. "I thought everybody played good today. It was a great team effort against a great team."
Amare Stoudemire had 31 points for the Suns, who had won 11 straight games versus Eastern Conference foes. Leandro Barbosa chipped in with 18 points and Steve Nash contributed 11 and six assists.
"It's embarrassing, it's disappointing -- it's everything," Nash said. "It's tough, no matter who you play, to lose by 30 points."
The recently acquired Shaquille O'Neal was held to just seven points on 3- of-8 shooting from the floor and 1-of-8 from the line.
"We all just have to know what's going on, especially me," said O'Neal. "It's only my third game with the guys and I'm learning a little bit. We'll be fine."
The Pistons dominated this one from the opening tip and used a stifling defense to open up a 27-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Detroit continued to play front-runner from there and really broke things open by closing the first half with a 12-0 run. Billups stroked a pair of jumpers in the flurry before capping it with a pair of free throws that gave the Pistons a 59-41 lead heading to the locker room.
The Suns never regrouped and were run out of the building in the third quarter. A 17-2 burst, punctuated by a Billups three, put Detroit on top 86-52 with 2:58 left in the frame.
Hamilton then buried a jumper to give the Pistons their largest lead of the contest, 90-54, with 56 seconds remaining in the third.
The fourth quarter was just extended garbage time with Detroit emptying the bench early. Even with all the reserves on the floor for the Pistons, Phoenix never got closer than 22 points the rest of the way.
