Final Score: Memphis 89 - Cleveland 109
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - LeBron James scored 25 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out 11 assists to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 109-89 rout of the Memphis Grizzlies.
On Thursday, Cleveland turned over nearly half its active roster as part of a huge three-team trade that landed the Cavaliers four players, the most significant being four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Ben Wallace. Wallace was shipped from Chicago to Cleveland along with veteran forward Joe Smith and the Cavs also acquired sharpshooting swingman Wally Szczerbiak and guard Delonte West from Seattle as part of the deal.
Smith, Szczerbiak and Wallace all tallied double digits in their Cavs debut, as Cleveland won its third straight contest. Smith had 14 points, Szczerbiak had 10 and Wallace gave 12 points and 10 boards.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas tallied 22 points and 13 boards in the win.
Hakim Warrick totaled 21 points and nine rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have lost five in a row overall and 12 straight on the road. Rudy Gay ended with 19 points, and Juan Carlos Navarro had 14.
Kyle Lowry had 13 points and Mike Conley 10 in defeat.
The Cavs held a 32-13 lead after 12 minutes of play and took a 59-38 cushion into the locker room.
"We weren't moving the ball, weren't playing with enough energy, waiting for something else to happen," Memphis head coach Marc Iavaroni said. "We've got to come out and be confident and I don't think we were."
A Warrick layup pulled the Grizzlies within 17 points, 65-48, with 8:17 left in the third quarter.
Moments later, after falling behind 76-55, a Conley jumper set the tone for eight unanswered Memphis points. Gay scored the final three to bring the Grizz within 13 points with just under three minutes on the clock.
Cleveland opened up an 82-67 advantage before the final stanza.
A Warrick finger roll bridged the gap to 13 points, 82-69, 40 seconds into the fourth. However, the Cavs' lead hovered around the high-teens, with the Grizzlies never pulling closer than 12 and trailing by as many as 23, the rest of the way.
"It was a good win," Cavs head coach Mike Brown said. "LeBron was his usual self. Z and Ben were terrific with double-doubles. Joe was nice coming off the bench, same with Damon."
