Final Score: Phoenix 127 - Memphis 113
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Steve Nash scored 25 points and dished out 13 assists, and Shaquille O'Neal had a strong showing with 13 points and 11 rebounds, as Phoenix bounced back from a blowout loss Sunday for a 127-113 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Amare Stoudemire also had 25 points, while Grant Hill netted 23 for the Suns, who were blasted, 116-86, at home by Detroit on Sunday, only to come back from a small deficit in the fourth quarter two nights later to post their sixth straight win over the Grizzlies.
Leandro Barbosa scored 17 points, while Boris Diaw ended with 15 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in the victory.
Rudy Gay scored 36 points for the Grizzlies, losers of six in a row and 12 of their last 13 games. Juan Carlos Navarro had 23 points in defeat. Hakim Warrick scored 16 points to go with 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
Mike Conley totaled 15 points and 11 assists, while Darko Milicic also scored 15 for Memphis, which was outscored 37-24 in the fourth quarter.
"Defensively, we started aggravating them a little bit by changing up our defenses and the coverage on their pick and roll," Conley said. "We really pushed the ball around and played together as a team. Juan Carlos got high and a couple of other guys got high. We were all in a rhythm."
Gay's three-pointer and Navarro's technical free throw gave Memphis a 97-95 edge two minutes into the final quarter, but the Suns came back with the next eight points, capped by Hill's pull-up jumper with 6:20 left.
Gay's layup had Memphis within 106-103 with 4:33 left, but Raja Bell nailed a three-pointer and Hill's layup moved the difference to eight with 3:41 remaining.
Conley's three-point play had Memphis within 116-110 with 1:45 left, but the Suns scorched the Grizzlies the rest of the way, ending the game on an 11-3 spurt.
Despite pulling away, Suns coach Mike D'Antoni gave credit to the Grizzlies for hanging in.
"We didn't hit our shots and they did," D'Antoni said. "Give them credit, they did a great job. They went with a couple different combinations on the floor. We have to get two different types of teams to match-up when teams go either big or small."
Phoenix led 28-23 after one quarter and 61-53 at the half. Memphis trailed 90-89 going into the fourth.
