Final Score: Orlando 101 - Cleveland 86
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Hedo Turkoglu scored 23 points and Orlando used a dominant fourth-quarter effort to overcome a pedestrian performance from Dwight Howard and knock off the slumping Cleveland Cavaliers, 101-86, at Quicken Loans Arena.
Turkoglu shot 8-of-14 from the floor and also grabbed four rebounds to go with five assists, while Rashard Lewis went for 21 points and hit all eight of his free-throw attempts. Jameer Nelson played a near-perfect game at the point, scoring 16 points, handing out nine assists and committing zero turnovers.
"It felt good," Nelson said of the win. "My energy was high for most parts of the game when I was in there. I just wanted to get into a rhythm, and they doubled Dwight, Rashard and those guys early on, and I got a lot of open shots."
Orlando (48-28), which had already clinched the Southeast Division title, secured the third spot in the Eastern Conference by creating more distance between itself and fourth-standing Cleveland, which has dropped five of seven.
Delonte West led the Cavs with 19 points and four assists, but LeBron James hit just 6-of-22 field-goal attempts for 17 points. James did grab seven rebounds and hand out nine assists, but 16 Cleveland turnovers - not to mention just 14 points in the final 12 minutes - contributed to a second straight loss.
"I definitely haven't had the lift that I've had in the past with my back tightening up," James said of a nagging injury that clearly bothered him at times. "But I don't use that as an excuse. I've just not been able to come through for my team in the fourth quarter the last two games."
Having trailed by three entering the fourth, Orlando took over down the stretch. Four straight free throws from Lewis and Turkoglu allowed the Magic to seize a 75-72 lead with 8:37 remaining, and it was a four-point margin at 79-75 with 6 1/2 to go after Keyon Dooling scored in transition.
Lewis drilled a three, then found Dooling for a lay-in to stretch the lead to nine. Turkoglu hit a runner and a free throw, and it was an 88-77 Magic advantage with just over four minutes remaining.
James got Cleveland as close as nine with less than two minutes remaining, but Nelson scored among the trees with a pretty scoop shot, and the Cavs were unable to mount another rally.
Howard totaled just four points on 1-of-8 shooting for the day, though he did grab a game-high 12 rebounds in his 39 minutes. Pat Garrity added 13 points off the Orlando bench, and Maurice Evans scored 11.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas finished with 18 points, nine boards and three blocked shots, and Devin Brown added 15 points and six rebounds. Cleveland (42-35) has already secured itself a playoff berth, but is now just two games ahead of Washington for the fourth seed, which would include homecourt advantage in an opening-round series.
Orlando led 30-26 after one quarter, behind 12 points from Nelson. Cleveland took a two-point lead with a 12-6 start the second, capped by Anderson Varejao's bucket at the 7:13 mark. Lewis' jumper had Orlando down just 46-44 with 2:35 left in the half, but Cleveland outscored the Magic 9-3 in the final 2 1/2 minutes to take a 55-47 lead into the break.
Orlando tied the game at 57 less than four minutes into the third on a Lewis three, but couldn't take the lead, and Cleveland still held a 72-69 advantage heading to the fourth.
