NBA Game Summary - Philadelphia at Washington

Final Score: Philadelphia 93 - Washington 109

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Gilbert Arenas had arguably his best game since returning from a knee injury earlier this month, recording 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Washington Wizards used a huge fourth quarter to defeat Philadelphia, 109-93 at the Verizon Center

Washington, which trailed by six after three quarters of play, outscored Philly, 31-9 in the deciding fourth quarter.

"The play-making in the fourth quarter just complemented our defense, and that is why you get a 31-9 run," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said.

Antawn Jamison dropped team-highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds, while DeShawn Stevenson hit 5-of-7 from behind the arc en route to a 19-point, seven-assist effort for Washington. Antonio Daniels and Darius Songaila added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as Washington put a stranglehold on the fifth-seed in the East. The Wizards lead sixth-seeded Toronto by 1 1/2 games.

Philadelphia fell back to being sole owners of the seventh-seed, a half-game behind the Raptors. Andre Iguodala finished with 22 points, six rebounds and seven assists, while Andre Miller chipped in with 16 points and 10 helpers.

Down 90-89 at the 7:54 mark of the fourth quarter, the Wizards showcased their half-court game. Arena's dribble penetration led to layup after layup for Washington as it made 13-of-15 from the floor at one point in the fourth.

Meanwhile, the Sixers were stuck throwing up contested outside shots that weren't falling for the first time all contest.

The result was a 20-2 Washington run to finish the game, highlighted by a back-to-back Stevenson and Arenas three-pointers with just under four minutes to play.

Philadelphia hit just one field goal in the fourth quarter - an Iguodala three at the 8:29 mark.

"We just didn't get enough ball movement," Iguodala said. "We didn't do a good job of collapsing on their isolations. We took some quick shots and they were contested."

Stifling defense allowed the Sixers to use their transition game effectively during a 15-point run early in the first quarter. Arenas and Stevenson hit late three-pointers to cut into the lead, but Philly still led, 30-23 heading into the second frame.

The streaky Wizards found their stroke in the second quarter, especially Stevenson, who was 4-for-5 from three-point land in the first half. Trailing, 47-41 with about four minutes left, the Wizards hit their last six field goals, including two Stevenson threes, to take a 57-53 lead into the break.

"When I have Gilbert and (Antonio Daniels) out there passing me the ball at the right times, I just have to catch and shoot," Stevenson said. "I have great point guards around me."

Washington managed only one field goal in the final 6:30 of the third, but quality free throw shooting kept the home team in the game, as the Wizards trailed, 84-78 after the third quarter of play.
