Georgia Cannot Stop UK, Wall

Odds & News | Webmaster ( Fri 5th, March 2010 )

A furious onslaught that was unleashed at both ends of the court by #3 Kentucky in the second half was evidence to just how far the Bulldogs are.

What started as a close game, changed on a flurry of turnovers by Georgia and some impressive buckets by the Wildcats and their superstar freshman John Wall, helping the Wildcats to an 80-68 win.

Sophomore Trey Thompkins said, "A Kentucky team making a run for the national championship. They have no weaknesses."

The Bulldogs (13-15, 5-10 SEC) held star forward DeMarcus Cousins to only 3 shots, however he dominated on the defensive end, blocking 6 Georgia shots.

Kentucky's perimeter game was far from impressive; the Wildcats converted only 8-22 shots from three point range, but a blazing second half stretch left the Bulldogs shaking their heads.

Even on the boards, where Kentucky leads the SEC by a wide margin, Georgia had success, finishing the game with a 37-28 edge. Regardless, Kentucky's 12-0 run to start the second half was fed by a bunch of Georgia turnovers.

Georgia coach Fox said, "They are a terrific team, they have some terrific players. You have to play darn close to perfect if you are not going to be able to match them in size or in quickness. When you can't match them in neither, you have got to play outstanding, and we were not able to do that."

This was the final home game of the season for Georgia and the final game in Stegeman for 3 Bulldogs' seniors, but it was Wall's memorable performance that will be remembered from this evening.

The talented guard being pegged as the first overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft, scored a game high 24 points, and had 6 points in the first 3 minutes of the second half which proved to be the difference in the game.

The Wildcats came out at the half with a press that appeared to flummox the Bulldogs. Georgia turned the ball over on 6 of its first 8 possessions and Kentucky (28-2, 13-2 SEC) took advantage going on 12-0 run which had effectively preserved game by the time Fox called a timeout out of sheer frustration.

Dustin Ware, the point guard said, "It is surprising how quickly this can turn, but we will watch the film. We know they are a great team and they can put up points in a flash. We need to keep the game at our pace, but they did a great job to keep it at theirs."
