New York, NY (Sports Network) - Memphis remained the top-ranked team in men's college basketball, according to the latest Associated Press poll, and the Florida Gators are back among the nation's elite.
Memphis (19-0) earned the No. 1 ranking for the second straight week with 46 first-place votes -- three fewer than last week -- and a total of 1,774 points from a nationwide media panel. The Tigers beat Tulsa and Gonzaga last week to remain one of two unbeaten teams in Division I men's basketball.
The other is Kansas (20-0), which held the second slot this week and picked up the remaining 26 first-place votes -- three more than last week.
Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, Georgetown, Tennessee, Michigan State, Washington State and Texas round out this week's top 10. Tennessee dropped four spots from third after a 72-66 loss at Kentucky last week.
The second 10 consists of Indiana, Butler, Wisconsin, Stanford, Xavier, Drake, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt and Florida. Indiana fell four spots after a home loss to Connecticut on Saturday, while Xavier vaulted eight spots from 23rd.
Florida is back in the poll for a second time this season on the heels of an 86-64 rout of Vanderbilt on Sunday. The Gators captured the last two NCAA Tournament titles, but entered this season with an entirely different cast and began the campaign unranked. They opened 4-0 and joined the poll in late November before a loss to Florida State knocked them out.
The last five teams ranked this week are St. Mary's-CA, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Baylor.
St. Mary's is also ranked for the second time this season. The Gaels, from the West Coast Conference, were ranked 24th in early December, then lost at Southern Illinois to end a one-week stay.
Kansas State was ranked at the start of the season for three weeks and returns with 10 wins in its last 11 games. The Wildcats will have a stern test in their first game after returning to the rankings, as unbeaten Kansas visits Manhattan on Wednesday.
Two other matchups with ranked teams facing each other are on Wednesday's schedule, as Vanderbilt visits Ole Miss and Texas A&M hosts Texas. On Thursday, Indiana meets Wisconsin in Madison, and two games Saturday pit Baylor against Texas in Austin and Stanford versus Washington State in Pullman.
Dayton, Villanova and Arizona State fell out of this week's poll after each lost a pair of games last week. Dayton, which was ranked 16th, had a tough week with a 26-point loss to Xavier and a 17-point setback against Richmond.
