Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Olmedo Saenz belted a pinch-hit two-run home run in the 10th inning, as Los Angeles beat Toronto, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Dodger Stadium.
With the score knotted at two, Toronto got a run in the 10th when John McDonald doubled and scored on pinch-hitter Gregg Zaun's single. But, LA got the game-winner in the home half off Jeremy Accardo (1-2). Tony Abreu walked, and Saenz followed with a two-run blast to left field on a 0-1 pitch for his fourth-career game-ending homer. Luis Gonzalez also homered for Los Angeles, which came in having ended a 10- game road trip by losing all three matchups with division rival San Diego. Brad Penny allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings for LA before Rudy Seanez (3-1) got the final out in the 10th for the win. Matt Stairs homered for the Blue Jays, who lost their third straight. Dustin McGowan gave up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in his first career start against the Dodgers. Trailing 2-1, the Blue Jays tied the score on Stairs' homer to right field on reliever Takashi Saito's fourth pitch in the ninth. Saito, who had not pitched since Sunday because of a sore left hamstring, blew the save to snap a string of 26 straight save attempts. The Dodgers got runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but Andre Ethier grounded out to send the game into extra innings. Trailing 1-0, the Dodgers got the go-ahead run in the seventh. Jeff Kent laced a double before Gonzalez smacked a two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 pitch. Toronto plated a run in the fourth, as Alex Rios grounded a lead-off double, moved to third on Vernon Wells' flyout, and came home on a Troy Glaus single.
