Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Coyotes signed 2006 first-round pick Peter Mueller to an entry level contract on Thursday.
Mueller was selected by the Coyotes with the eighth overall choice, and is considered one of the top prospects in the league. "The signing of Peter Mueller is an important step in our process of building a winning franchise here in Phoenix," said Coyotes general manager Don Maloney. "Developing our young talent is an important part of that process, and getting Peter signed and into our system is very exciting for us. He is an impressive talent." Mueller, 19, tallied 21 goals and 57 assists in 51 games for Everett of the Western Hockey League last season. Despite playing in fewer games than any of the WHL's Top 50 scorers, Mueller ranked third in the league in assists and 13th in points. The Coyotes are coming off a 31-46-5 campaign in 2006-2007, for the worst point total in the Western Conference and the second-worst record in the NHL.
