Southeast Missouri selects Roman as acting coach

Cape Girardeau, MO (Sports Network) - Southeast Missouri State has chosen assistant coach Zac Roman as the school's acting men's basketball coach while Scott Edgar is on administrative leave.

Edgar will retain the title of head coach, but won't perform any of the duties while the school awaits the findings from the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions for major violations within the basketball program.

Roman is in his third year as an assistant after serving five seasons as an assistant coach and interim head coach at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas.

"This is a difficult time for our program," said Roman. "But I am dedicated to making this team a cohesive unit and working cooperatively with our assistant coaches to give our players every opportunity to succeed. I am very pleased to be offered the acting coach position."

After the university received a notice of allegations from the NCAA earlier this month, Edgar was placed on administrative leave and athletic director Don Kaverman was relieved of his duties.

Edgar was entering his third season with the Redhawks, who were 12-19 last season and 11-20 in 2006-07.
