Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - It didn't take long for Real Salt Lake's Ritchie Kotschau to make an impact on his new team. The veteran was just added to RSL's 28-man roster on Wednesday and Saturday, after coming on as an 81st minute sub in a 0-0 draw at New England, earned an 82nd minute red card to put his team down a man while pushing for the game-winning goal.
The result was a scoreless draw on the road against Eastern Conference power New England, who is winless in its last two - both at Gillette Stadium, here. The draw, RSL's league-leading sixth of the season, also pushed the club out of the Western Conference basement, one point ahead of Los Angeles before the Galaxy's game at home against D.C. United later Saturday night. The best chance of the game came early when Taylor Twellman, who entered the game as the Major League Soccer leading goalscorer, headed a cross off the crossbar. The rest of the first half was basically a midfield battle as neither team could establish much possession or buildup. RSL's Freddie Adu had a couple chances in the second half, but his efforts were well off the mark on his 18th birthday. New England was pushing for a goal in the closing minutes while up a man, with several quality chances by Jeff Larentowicz, Taylor Twellman and Wells Thompson being saved by Real Salt lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando. Rimando made 13 saves for the cleansheet while Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis made two. Both Real Salt Lake and New England are off next week, with the Revs back in action on June 16 when it hosts Columbus while RSL hosts FC Dallas on June 14.
