Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - New York Mets centerfielder Carlos Beltran left Thursday's game against the San Francisco Giants after a first-inning collision.
With one out in the bottom of the frame, Beltran was running down the first base line on his eventual infield single, and collided with San Francisco's Rich Aurilia, who was covering first base. He appeared to hit his knee with Aurilia's leg, but was able to stay in the game and score a run on David Wright's double. However, Beltran did not appear in the outfield for the top of the second, and his departure was due to the diagnosis of a bruised right knee. Carlos Gomez entered the game as his replacement in the Mets' 4-2 series-clinching win. Beltran is expected to get an MRI on the knee on Friday.
