Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - J.P. Prince scored 17 points and Wayne Chism added 16 and 15 rebounds, as No. 15 Tennessee dismissed the Ole Miss Rebels in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament with a 76-65 victory.
Cameron Tatum had four of his five field goals from beyond the arc to end with 15 points and Bobby Maze scored 13 for the Volunteers (25-7), who set up a date with second-ranked Kentucky in the semifinals on Saturday.
"When we play Kentucky [Saturday], we've really got to be focused because they're going to have the whole arena," Chism said. "So we've really got to come out and be very patient against these guys because they're going to have the crowd on their side."
Chris Warren knocked down five three-pointers to finish with 16 points, but failed to take care of the ball and turned it over nine times for the Rebels.
Zach Graham had 15 points and six rebounds, while Terrico White went for 13 and seven as Ole Miss' (21-10) shot at an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament diminished.
It was close for much of the game, dominated by poor shooting throughout, until a pair of second-half Volunteer runs created some separation.
The first, a 9-0 stretch, broke a tie game at 44-44, as Tatum's jumper close to 13 1/2 minutes left dropped for a 53-44 contest.
Warren countered with three-pointers on back-to-back Rebel possessions and a single Trevor Gaskins' free throw to follow made it a 53-51 game.
Then a 14-5 UT run, spanning the better part of seven minutes, gave the Vols a healthy 11-point lead at 67-56 following a pair of Chism free throws nearing four minutes to play.
The Rebels had just one field goal during the stretch, and a jumper from White only cut the deficit to eight with 3 1/2 minutes to go.
Tennessee continued to sink valuable free throws down the stretch, and two from Brian Williams had the margin at 73-61 a minute later. Ole Miss could only get within eight from there.
The Rebels grabbed an early lead and held firm until Tatum sank consecutive three-pointers near the half's midway point for a 23-22 UT edge.
Ole Miss was quickly back in control on a Gaskins layup with four minutes left, allowing for a 31-26 advantage. Tatum, though, turned the tables again with a pair of threes to give the Vols a one-point lead.
White put in the final two baskets of the half to hand Ole Miss a 35-34 edge at the break.
"I feel like we [were] in a good spot," Graham said. "I mean, we won the first half. We just needed to come out and win the second half by at least one point. We didn't do that."
Both sides continued to play it close in the second half as Warren's three- ball nearly four minutes in tied the game at 44-all.
Game Notes
Tennessee shot 38.9 percent from the field, only slightly better than Ole Miss at 38.6 percent...However, the Vols made one more free throw (26) than the Rebels attempted.
