Canisius (2-10) at Saint Peter's (3-9)

GAME NOTES: A couple of teams in search of their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the season collide at the Yanitelli Center tonight, as the Canisius Golden Griffins tangle with the Saint Peter's Peacocks. The Griffins enter the contest off a rare win, as they defeated Maine, 81-70, on Monday. The victory put a stop to a short two-game slide and improved the squad to a still dismal 2-10 overall. Canisius now returns back to MAAC play, where it has gone 0-2 thus far. As for Saint Peter's, it comes into the contest on the decline, having dropped seven straight games, including an 83-78 setback at Providence on Monday. With the recent string of losses, the team now sits at just 3-9 on the season. Much like the Griffins, the Peacocks have lost both of their league games this season, but they do own a 3-2 mark at home. Tonight's game represents the 55th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Canisius holding a 32-22 advantage in the series.

The Griffins shot 47.7 percent from the field and converted 12-of-13 free-throw attempts, as they notched an 81-70 win over Maine earlier in the week. The team also forced 15 turnovers, while committing just seven itself. Leading the way was Frank Turner, who tallied 18 points and doled out five assists. For the season, Turner is the only player on the team averaging in double figures, with 12.0 ppg. He is also dishing out a team-high 5.5 apg and collecting 4.4 rpg, although he has had some struggles at the foul line (.591 percent). As a team, Canisius is scoring only 61.7 ppg, while giving up a much higher 74.0 ppg.

The Peacocks were outscored at the foul line, 14-7, and dominated on the boards, 50-36, in an 83-78 setback at Providence on Monday. Saint Peter's kept things close by knocking down 11-of-27 shots from beyond the arc, but in the end it wasn't enough. Raul Orta paced the team in defeat with 18 points on 6- of-9 shooting from three-point range. Todd Sowell notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Nick Leon and Wesley Jenkins had 12 points apiece. On the season, Sowell has been a force down low for the Peacocks and he is averaging a double-double with team-highs of 13.9 ppg and 11.7 rpg. Jenkins is hot on his heels with 13.3 ppg, while Orta chips in with 12.0 ppg. Overall, Saint Peter's is turning in 70.5 ppg, behind 42.7 percent shooting from the field.

Saint Peter's has the advantage playing at home. It also has a few more weapons than Canisius does, so go with the Peacocks tonight.
