GAME NOTES: The Dartmouth Big Green and the Harvard Crimson will meet for the second time in less than a week, as the two schools get set to collide at Leede Arena in an Ivy League tussle. This past Saturday the Crimson grabbed an impressive, 82-56 victory over Dartmouth. The winning did not stop there for Harvard, as the squad also posted a victory over Colgate on Tuesday by a score of 77-57. The Crimson have struggled on the road this year, losing all eight of their contests away from home. As for the Big Green, they have not stepped on the court since falling to Harvard this past Saturday. That was the fourth consecutive loss for Dartmouth, which is now only 5-8 on the season. However, on their home floor, the Big Green have a winning ledger at 3-1. Despite falling to Harvard this past weekend, the Big Green still have a commanding, 92-73 edge over the Crimson in the all-time series.
The Crimson are not short of options offensively this season as the squad currently has four players posting double figures, beginning with Jeremy Lin, who is averaging 13.0 ppg, while also grabbing 4.8 rpg. Drew Housman is only shooting 39.9 percent from the field on the year, but the guard is netting 12.5 ppg for Harvard. Pat Magnarelli has been outstanding in the paint, as the forward is posting 11.5 ppg to go along with a team-best 6.6 rpg. Evan Harris rounds out the double-figure scorers with 10.2 ppg. Harvard continued its solid offensive play with a 20-point victory over Colgate this past Tuesday. In the win, the team shot 43.9 percent from the floor and made an impressive 8-of-15 attempts from long range. Magnarelli posted a double-double in the win, netting 21 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds. Lin added 17 points and pulled down eight boards, while Brad Unger chipped in 12 points and Andrew Pusar tallied 10.
Unlike their counterpart, scoring has not come easy for Dartmouth, as the team is currently netting 63.8 ppg. The Big Green are shooting 42.2 percent from the field, but where the team has had trouble is from behind the arc, as Dartmouth is connecting on less than 30.0 percent of its attempts from long range. The only real scoring threat has been Alex Barnett, who is averaging 16.2 ppg, while also collecting a team-best 6.9 rpg. DeVon Mosley is the only other player for Dartmouth contributing on a consistent basis, as the guard is netting 12.0 ppg. In the loss to Harvard this past Saturday, the Big Green's offensive woes were on full display. Dartmouth shot just 38.3 percent in the contest and made a mere 3-of-14 shots from behind the arc. Once again Barnett was the main option for Dartmouth, as he finished with 18 points and seven boards. However, he was the only player in double figures for the Big Green.
Dartmouth certainly has some issues offensively, but the Crimson have yet to win on the road, and their road woes should continue tonight. Expect Dartmouth to avenge the loss from this past Saturday.
