Duquesne (11-3) at (22) Rhode Island (14-2)

GAME NOTES: Trying to avoid an 0-2 start in Atlantic 10 Conference play, the 22nd-ranked Rhode Island Rams return back to the Ryan Center, where they will host the streaking Duquesne Dukes today. The Rams opened their conference schedule against one of the top teams in the A-10 in 17th-ranked Dayton and they were dropped 92-83 on Wednesday. It was the team's first setback since losing to Boston College on November 21st, as URI saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end. Still, the Rams' 14-2 start is their best since the 1946-47 campaign, and they now return home, where they have gone a perfect 7-0 thus far. As for Duquesne, it comes into the tilt riding a five-game win streak that includes a 74-62 triumph over Fordham in its A-10 opener on Wednesday. Now at 11-3 overall, the Dukes are off to their best start since the 1979-80 campaign and they have already surpassed last season's win total (10-19). Duquesne unfortunately, hasn't defeated a team ranked in the Top 25 since upsetting Xavier in 1997. As for the head-to-head series, URI owns a small 24-22 lead over Duquesne and it has won the past three encounters.

The Dukes are one of the top scoring teams in the nation, as they are averaging a healthy 87.2 ppg behind 47.2 percent shooting from the field this season. Kojo Mensah leads this potent and balanced attack with 14.4 ppg and he is also dishing out a team-high 3.9 apg. Shawn James nips at his heels with 14.0 ppg and is ripping down 7.1 rpg to lead the team in that department. Kieron Achara is collecting 4.4 rpg and he rounds out the double-digit scorers with 11.7 ppg. In the team's last game, four players reached double figures, as Duquesne outlasted Fordham in its A-10 opener. Reggie Jackson, who is averaging 7.5 ppg on the season, led the way with 15 points on the strength of 3-of-4 three-point field goals. James logged 14 points and seven boards, while Aaron Jackson and Damian Saunders chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Dukes won the game on the boards, where they held a 47-35 advantage over Fordham, including a 22-10 difference on the offensive glass.

Much like Duquesne, URI has thrived at the offensive end of the court this season, averaging a hardy 83.6 ppg behind an efficient 49.5 percent shooting from the floor. Will Daniels is the squad's go-to-guy and he tops the roster in scoring (18.8 ppg) as well as rebounding (7.2 rpg). Jimmy Baron has provided a nice complement to him with 16.3 ppg and he is knocking down 46.0 percent of his attempts from long distance. In the squad's previous contest, Daniels and Baron combined for 51 points, but it still wasn't enough for the Rams in a loss at Dayton. URI made good on 50.0 percent of its attempts from the floor and 10-of-26 from long range, but allowed Dayton to shoot an even better 62.0 percent from the field, including 11-of-21 from beyond the arc.

URI is coming off a rare loss and things won't get any easier against a dangerous Duquesne club today. It should be a fast paced and high scoring affair, with the Rams coming out on top behind the support of their fans and a big game from Daniels and Baron.
