Buffalo (6-8) at Bowling Green (6-8)

GAME NOTES: A couple of teams trying to inch closer to .500 on the season hit the floor at Anderson Arena tonight, as the Bowling Green Falcons entertain the Buffalo Bulls in a Mid-American Conference battle. Having alternated wins and losses for the last five outings, BGSU is now 6-8 just like the Bulls. On Saturday, the Falcons had their worst offensive effort of the 2007-08 campaign when they were held down by Kent State on the road, 63-49. As for Buffalo, it has been stumbling around since winning three in a row at home during the end of November and the first of December. With their 76-68 setback to Akron on Saturday, the Bulls have now lost three in a row and five of the last six outings. Bowling Green leads the all-time series with the Bulls by a count of 11-4, but since losing nine in a row to begin the relationship back in 1998-99, Buffalo has gone 4-2 versus the Falcons. In fact, the Bulls have won three of the last four meetings, including a 98-90 overtime affair last season.

Calvin Betts came off the bench to offer up 17 points and eight rebounds in just 24 minutes of action on Saturday, but even his efforts were not enough to lift the Bulls back into the win column. Andy Robinson and Rodney Pierce added 14 and 13 points, respectively, combining for nine assists and eight rebounds as well in the setback. As if playing under .500 were not bad enough, the news gets even worse for the Bulls now that they know that center Vadim Fedotov will not be back anytime soon with his right ACL torn. Fedotov (5.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg) was not the greatest man in the middle that the MAC has ever seen, but having started all 14 games for the Bulls means he was a steady constant. Robinson, who is the only double-digit scorer for the program at 10.2 ppg, is shooting a mere 38.7 percent from the floor, which explains why the team as a whole is converting only 40.5 percent from the field and 31.3 percent behind the three-point line.

Bowling Green knocked down a total of just 19 field goals on Saturday, hit 4- of-16 beyond the arc and 7-of-16 at the free-throw line as it bowed to Kent State by 14 points on the road. Nate Miller kept up his end of the bargain with a team-best 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor, but that just means the rest of the roster combined to go 12-of-34 on the evening. Darryl Clements checked in with 11 points as well, but he suffered beyond the arc (1- of-6). Miller is playing close to 34 minutes per game this season, so it only figures that he is one of the top scorers for BGSU with his 13.7 ppg. Clearing 6.1 rpg, Miller seems much better suited to spend his time in the paint, rather than the perimeter where on offense he has made just 6-of-22 shooting. Chris Knight adds 12.4 ppg and is first on the glass with just over seven per game, yet that doesn't make up for his mere 60.5 percent effort at the charity stripe these days. Limited to just 64.4 ppg, the Falcons have shown serious issues behind the three-point line where they are just 29.6 percent accurate over the course of 14 games.

Struggling coming into this meeting to begin with, the Bulls are going to have a tough time filling the void left by Fedotov in the middle.
