GAME NOTES: Mid-American Conference play will take place this afternoon when the Miami-Ohio RedHawks host the Buffalo Bulls at Millett Hall. The Bulls have struggled lately, losing six of their last seven games, including four in a row. The last time Buffalo was on the court the team was defeated by Bowling Green, 83-70. The recent setback dropped the Bulls to 0-7 on the road, and 0-3 in league action. As for the RedHawks, they have lost five consecutive games, including a rough, 74-62 setback to Kent State this past Thursday. Just like their counterpart, the RedHawks have yet to win a conference matchup, as the team is also 0-3 against MAC foes. It does not get any easier for Miami-OH, which will be on the road for three of its next four games. In terms of the all-time series between the two schools, the RedHawks have a solid 14-4 edge over Buffalo.
The Bulls have had plenty of issues offensively, as the team is netting just 69.4 ppg, while shooting a mere 40.5 percent from the field. Currently, only Andy Robinson is averaging double figures for Buffalo, as the guard is netting 10.3 ppg, despite shooting just 38.2 percent from the field. The Bulls' offensive woes continued this past Thursday, as the team fell to Bowling Green by a 13-point margin. In the loss, Buffalo shot just 40.6 percent from the field and committed a whopping 25 turnovers. Robinson made just 4-of-12 shots from the field, but still finished with a team-high 11 points. Andrew Atman also posted 11 points, while Calvin Betts chipped in 10 points to go along with seven rebounds.
The RedHawks have been atrocious offensively as well, and come into today's game netting just 59.9 ppg, despite shooting a solid 46.1 percent from the field. Tim Pollitz has been the top option for Miami all year, and is currently leading the team with 16.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg. The only other player netting double figures is Michael Bramos, who is producing 15.9 ppg. Miami was unable to get anything going the last time they were on the floor, as the team fell to Kent State, 74-62. In the loss, the RedHawks shot just 40.4 percent from the field and made only 5-of-17 attempts from behind the arc. Bramos led the way for Miami, as the forward posted 23 points. Pollitz added 18 points, while Kenny Hayes chipped in 16 points.
These two schools are very similar offensively. However, at the defensive end of the floor is where they differ. The RedHawks are much more effective at that end of the court and that should make all the difference in this game.
