Saint Peter's (4-13) at Fairfield (5-12)

GAME NOTES: Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action will take place this evening, as the Fairfield Stags host the Saint Peter's Peacocks at Alumni Hall. Since opening the season with a 3-2 ledger, the Peacocks have dropped 11 of their last 12 games, including four in a row. The last time Saint Peter's was on the court the team suffered a tough, 62-57 setback to Loyola. The Peacocks have been terrible on the road this season, losing all 10 matchups away from home. As for the Stags, they have lost their last three games, including an embarrassing, 67-52 loss to Iona this past Friday. Surprisingly the Stags have struggled tremendously at home this year, losing five of their six games in front of a home crowd. The Stags will remain home after this matchup to face Canisius and Niagara. In terms of the all-time series between the two schools on the hardwood, the Peacocks have a solid 48-41 edge over Fairfield.

The Peacocks' atrocious start to the season can be attributed to the team's offensive shortcomings, as the team is netting 67.4 ppg, while shooting just 40.8 percent from the floor. Wesley Jenkins has been the top player for the Peacocks this season, as the guard is posting 13.1 ppg. Todd Sowell has been tremendous in the paint, averaging a double-double on the year with 12.9 ppg and 10.8 rpg. Raul Orta has been very dangerous from the perimeter, netting 42.3 percent of his three-point attempts. The last time Saint Peter's was on the floor, the team struggled again offensively, scoring just 57 points in a five-point loss to Loyola Maryland. Saint Peter's only shot 37.5 percent from the floor and made just 7-of-14 attempts from the foul line. Jenkins tallied 18 points in the win, while Sowell posted 13 points to go along with nine rebounds.

Fairfield has also had plenty of problems offensively, and heads into this game netting a meager 62.6 ppg, while shooting 41.0 percent from the field. Only Jonathan Han is posting double figures for Fairfield, as the guard is netting 11.1 ppg. The Stags were woeful in their recent matchup, losing to Iona, 67-52. Fairfield shot a mere 40.0 percent from the field, and also committed a whopping 21 turnovers. Anthony Johnson led the way in the loss with 11 points, while Warren Edney chipped in 10 points in 15 minutes of action off the bench. As for Han, he posted just nine points and dished out five assists in the setback.

Something will have to give tonight. The Peacocks are winless on the road, but the Stags have been dreadful at home. The Peacocks have more weapons offensively and should slip by Fairfield for their first road win.
