GAME NOTES: The Bowling Green Falcons will try to remain in the win column when they take on the Ball State Cardinals this evening in a Mid-American Conference tilt at Worthen Arena. Bowling Green has been up and down throughout the season, and comes into this game with a mediocre 9-9 ledger. The team has won three of its last four matchups, including two in a row. The last time BGSU was on the court the team grabbed a 63-59 victory over Northern Illinois, pushing its league ledger to 4-2 on the season. As for the Cardinals, they have lost three of their last four games, including two straight setbacks. The last time BSU was on the floor the team suffered a tough, 61-59 setback to Ohio. Ball State is just 3-15 overall on the season, however all three victories have come at Worthen Arena. Bowling Green has won two of the last three matchups against Ball State and now lead the all-time series by a slim, 37-33 advantage.
The Falcons have struggled at the offensive end of the floor throughout the season and head into this game netting just 63.7 ppg, while shooting a mediocre 43.6 percent from the field. Nate Miller has been the top option for BGSU, and comes into this game averaging 13.3 ppg. Miller is also collecting 5.5 rpg and has dished out a team-high 49 assists, while collecting 31 steals. Chris Knight is the only other player posting double figures, as the forward is contributing 11.7 ppg to go along with a team-best 7.3 rpg. The last time the Falcons were on the court the team only scored 63 points, but it was enough to grab a four-point win over Northern Illinois. The Falcons only shot 41.4 percent from the floor, and made just 7-of-18 attempts from long range. Miller led the way in the win with 17 points, while Joe Jakubowski tallied 14 points. Knight chipped in 12 points and also pulled down nine rebounds for the Falcons.
The Cardinals have been one of the worst offensive teams in the MAC this season, and are currently averaging just 56.8 ppg, while shooting a meager 39.4 percent from the field. Anthony Newell has missed some time due to injury, but while the forward has been on the court he has posted 19.1 ppg to go along with 7.4 rpg. Peyton Stovall is the only other player netting double figures for BSU, as the guard is chipping in 14.2 ppg. The last time the Cardinals were on the court the team suffered a two-point loss to Ohio. Ball State shot 48.9 percent from the floor, but made only 7-of-16 attempts from behind the arc, and just 8-of-17 shots from the foul line. Newell was the only player in double figures in the setback, as he finished with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds.
This should be a low scoring affair between two teams that have struggled offensively. Bowling Green has more scoring options and should be able to grab a slim win on the road.
