GAME NOTES: Two of the top teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will battle this evening, as the Siena Saints will host the Marist Red Foxes at the Times Union Center. The Red Foxes saw their three-game winning streak come to an end this past Wednesday, as the team fell to Rider by a 79-65 margin. It was only the second setback in the last 10 games for Marist, which is now 8-3 in league play. As for the Saints, they have lost two of their last three games, including a rough, 89-75 setback to Rider this past weekend. The recent loss has dropped Siena's conference ledger to 8-3 on the year. In 19 years in the MAAC, the Saints have posted a solid 175-131 ledger. Marist has won seven of the last 10 meetings with Siena. However, the Saints still have a commanding, 37-22 edge over the Red Foxes in the all-time series.
The Red Foxes have been mediocre offensively this season, as the team is netting 69.6 ppg, while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor. Jay Gavin has yet to start a game for the Red Foxes, but that has not stopped him from leading the squad with 13.3 ppg. The only other player netting double figures is Louie McCroskey (12.4 ppg), but he is currently dealing with an ankle injury and will likely miss tonight's matchup. The last time Marist was on the court the team suffered a tough, 79-65 setback to Rider. The Red Foxes shot 43.6 percent from the floor, but made just 5-of-12 attempts from the foul line and was dominated on the glass, 38-27. Ben Farmer led the way with 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while David Devezin contributed 13 points to go along with seven assists. As for Gavin, he chipped in 11 points in the loss.
Siena has been much more dangerous offensively, as the squad is netting 75.6 ppg, while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor. Edwin Ubiles has been outstanding from behind the arc, netting 45.3 percent of his three-point attempts, while averaging a team-best 16.3 ppg. Kenny Hasbrouck is contributing 15.1 ppg, while Alex Franklin has worked the paint, posting 13.4 ppg to go along with a team-high 7.1 rpg. The last time Siena was on the court, the team posted 75 points, but still fell to the Rider Broncs. In the loss, Siena shot 48.2 percent from the floor, but made only 12-of-22 attempts from the foul line and also was dominated on the glass, 46-21. Hasbrouck led the way with 23 points in the loss, while Ubiles and Franklin tallied 18 and 16 points, respectively.
The Saints simply have more scoring options and should be able to grab a win over a Marist squad that is lacking at the offensive end of the court.
