GAME NOTES: Still in search of their first league win, the Citadel Bulldogs will take on the College of Charleston Cougars this evening in a Southern Conference tilt at the Kresse Arena. It has been a rough season for the Bulldogs, as the team has dropped 15 of its 20 matchups. The Citadel is currently riding a horrible nine-game losing skid with the most recent setback coming last week to Furman by a 53-51 margin. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 0-11 in league play and 0-6 on the road. As for the Cougars, they have lost four consecutive games, including a heartbreaking, 67-66 loss to Wofford this past Monday. The recent skid has left the Cougars with a mere 4-7 mark in conference play. Earlier this season the Cougars clawed their way to a 69-46 victory over the Bulldogs. With that victory Charleston now holds a 44-37 edge in the all-time series.
The Citadel is coming off a very tough loss, as the team fell to Furman by a 53-51 margin. In the loss the Bulldogs shot 43.5 percent, but went to the foul line twice, missing both attempts. Cameron Wells scored 17 points in the loss, while Austin Dahn and Tyrell McDowell contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Bulldogs have struggled tremendously at the offensive end of the court this year, averaging just 65.4 ppg, while shooting a mere 40.2 percent from the floor. Wells has been the best option for the Citadel, as the guard is leading the team with 13.6 ppg and 3.6 apg.
Four players are currently producing double figures for Charleston, beginning with Tony White Jr. who is posting 13.2 ppg. Andrew Goudelock is netting 12.9 ppg on the season, while Jermaine Johnson has dominated the paint, contributing 11.8 ppg to go along with 8.9 rpg. Dustin Scott has also performed well for the Cougars, chipping in 10.7 ppg. The last time Charleston was on the court, the team suffered a 67-66 setback to Wofford. The Cougars shot 46.3 percent from the floor, but made just 7-of-20 attempts from behind the arc and was dominated on the glass, 38-26. Scott led the way with 29 points and eight rebounds in the loss, while Goudelock and White chipped in 13 points apiece.
The Cougars have played poorly over the past couple of weeks, but expect the team to right the ship this evening against a terrible Citadel team that is winless in conference play.
