GAME NOTES: The NC State Wolfpack will try to pull even in ACC play tonight, as they host the Virginia Tech Hokies from the RBC Center in Raleigh. NC State enters the tilt on a high note, as it escaped Wake Forest, 67-65, on Sunday. It was the ninth win in 11 home outings this season for the Wolfpack, which improved to 14-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Up next for NC State will be a date with Maryland on Saturday. As for Virginia Tech, it has strung together three straight wins following a short two-game slide. In terms of the all-time series, NC State owns a 33-10 lead over Tech and it has won the last five meetings.
The Hokies controlled the boards, 43-33, and held a 25-19 edge in free-throw points, as they defeated Virginia in overtime this past weekend. The team hit on just 39.3 percent of its field goals, but limited Virginia to an even worse 35.8 percent shooting effort from the floor. Deron Washington headed the charge with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. A.D. Vassallo posted 14 points, and Jeff Allen logged 12 points and six boards. For the season, Vassallo tops the roster in scoring at 15.9 ppg and he is also snaring 5.0 rpg and shooting 40.0 percent from long distance. Hickson is making good on 60.4 percent of his shots from the floor and he leads NC State in both scoring (15. ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg) for the season.
