Wofford (14-10) at Appalachian State (15-8)

GAME NOTES: The Appalachian State Mountaineers will try to remain on top of the standings in the North Division of the Southern Conference when they host the Wofford Terriers this evening at the Holmes Center. The Terriers are coming off a heartbreaking, 70-67 overtime loss to Elon. It was just the second setback in the last eight games for Wofford, which is now an even 7-7 in league action. As for the Mountaineers, they have won 10 of their last 12 games, including a thrilling, 75-71 overtime victory over The Citadel this past Saturday. The strong play has propelled ASU to the top of the standings in the North Division with a 10-4 record. The Mountaineers have been mediocre at home for the most part, as the team is just 6-3 at the Holmes Center. The Mountaineers collected their third straight victory over Wofford earlier this season, defeating the Terriers by a 52-49 margin. With the small streak Appalachian State now leads the all-time series, 19-9.

The Terriers have been unable to find a groove offensively this season, which is why the team is hovering at .500 in league action. The team comes into this game netting 68.1 ppg, while shooting a solid 46.1 percent from the floor. Shane Nichols is currently shooting 42.6 percent from behind the arc, and is leading the team with 15.2 ppg. Drew Gibson has been run the show on the floor for Wofford, and is averaging 11.1 ppg, while pacing the team with 130 assists. The last time the Terriers were on the floor, the team suffered a tough three- point overtime loss to Elon. In the setback, Wofford shot just 40.4 percent from the floor and was led by Nichols and Drew Gibson, who both tallied 14 points apiece. As for Gibson, he posted 12 points and dished out 10 assists.

The Mountaineers have been slightly more dangerous at the offensive end of the floor this season, as the team is netting 72.4 ppg, while shooting 47.3 percent from the field. Donte Minter has been the main source of production for ASU, as the forward is netting 13.7 ppg to go along with 6.2 rpg. Donald Sims has been outstanding from behind the arc, netting 44.5 percent of his three-point attempts, while averaging 12.5 ppg to go along with a team-high 63 assists. Kellen Brand rounds out the double-figure scorers with 10.7 ppg. In he recent four-point win over The Citadel, the Mountaineers shot 44.4 percent from the floor and made 20-of-25 attempts from the foul line. Minter poured in 25 points in the win, while Jeremy Clayton tallied a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Sims added 13 points for ASU, while Ryann Abraham contributed 11 points off the bench.

The Mountaineers should be able to use their strong frontcourt presence to slip past the Terriers in a much-needed SoCon victory.
