Brown (14-8) at Columbia (12-11)

GAME NOTES: Two of the top three schools in the Ivy league will collide this evening when the Columbia Lions host the Brown Bears at Levien Gym. The Bears have mauled the competition over the past few weeks and head into this matchup with a five-game winning streak. The last time Brown was on the floor the team grabbed a thrilling, 65-63 overtime victory over Princeton. With the win streak the Bears are now 6-2 in Ivy play, placing them behind only Cornell in the league standings. As for the Lions, they are 5-3 in conference action, and sit just one game behind Brown. Columbia is also riding a winning streak, as the team has collected four consecutive victories. The most recent win was a strong, 73-64 decision over Harvard this past Saturday. Currently the Lions hold a 62-58 edge over Brown, but the Bears have won 12 of the last 15 matchups, including a 68-63 decision earlier this year.

The Bears are only producing 68.1 ppg on the year, but that has not stopped Brown from posting a solid record on the season. The main reason for the team's success is due to the tandem of Mark McAndrew and Damon Huffman. McAndrew is pacing Brown with 16.8 ppg, and is also collecting 5.2 rpg, while Huffman is shooting 40.4 percent from long range, which has led to 14.3 ppg. The last time Brown was on the floor the team grabbed a tough, two-point overtime win over Princeton. The Bears shot a mere 40.5 percent from the field in the win, but made 26-of-34 attempts from the foul line. McAndrew paced the team with a double-double, netting 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Peter Sullivan added 15 points, while Matt Mullery and Huffman tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Throughout the season the Lions have relied heavily on the play of forward John Baumann. Baumann is one of the top players in the Ivy League and is currently pacing Columbia with 15.7 ppg and 6.7 rpg. As a whole, the Lions are producing just 64.6 ppg, while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor. However, the team has done a solid job defensively, limiting opponents to just 63.9 ppg. This past weekend the Lions put forth one of their better offensive performances, as they defeated Harvard, 73-64. In the win, Columbia shot 45.6 percent from the floor and was led by Baumann, who posted 20 points and 12 boards. Ben Nwachukwu added 16 points for the Lions, while Mack Montgomery contributed 13 points.

The Bears already grabbed a win over Columbia earlier this season, and the Lions would probably want to return the favor. However, the Bears have played extremely well on the road, and should continue their strong play away from home.
