Detroit (1-1) vs. Robert Morris (0-2)

GAME NOTES: The Detroit Titans and Robert Morris Colonials will meet this evening as part of Coaches vs. Cancer Classic from Albany.

Detroit was beaten badly by California in the opener by a 95-61 final, but the team deserves credit for bouncing back strong from that setback. The Titans managed to knock off Western Michigan earlier this week, evening their record and restoring any confidence that may have been lost.

Robert Morris has failed to even remain competitive in either of its first two games. After getting crushed by Syracuse in the opener by a 100-60 final, the Colonials dropped an 80-61 decision to Penn State the last time out.

This game marks the first-ever meeting between Detroit and Robert Morris on the hardwood.

Through two games, Chase Simon has emerged as a go-to guy at the offensive end of the court for the Titans. He is averaging 19.5 ppg on the strength of his 46.2 percent shooting from the floor. Simon gets some help from Eli Holman, who is scoring 15.5 ppg to go along with 9.5 rpg. In the victory over Western Michigan last time out, Simon scored 22 points to lead the charge, overshadowing the fact that he turned the ball over six times. Holman had 16 points and 12 rebounds in the contest, and Woody Payne added 11 points. The fourth and final double-digit scorer for the Titans was Xavier Keeling with 10 points, as he was effective before fouling out. Detroit overcame a high total of turnovers and shaky foul shooting with 51 percent efficiency from the field.

Robert Morris was simply no match for Penn State earlier in the week. The Colonials shot just 37.1 percent from the floor in the clash, including a 4- of-16 showing from three-point range. The club was outrebounded by a 38-31 margin and permitted the Nittany Lions to make good on 51.9 percent of their field goal attempts. Robert Morris actually trailed by just one point at intermission, but Penn State woke up and completely dominated the second half. Russell Johnson scored 11 points off the bench for the Colonials, who got 10 points from Velton Jones. In the opener against Syracuse, Jones scored 15 points to lead his team. Unfortunately for Robert Morris, it turned the ball over 28 times in that clash and shot 35.5 percent from the floor.

Detroit is this pick in this clash, as it will get past Robert Morris in what figures to be a fairly competitive contest.
