Miami-Florida (3-0) vs. UNC-Wilmington (1-2)

GAME NOTES: The Hurricanes of Miami-Florida aim to stay unbeaten on the young season this afternoon as they contend against the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington in the semifinal round of the second annual Charleston Classic at Carolina First Arena.

Blow out wins over North Carolina Central and Nova Southeastern were mere appetizers for the Hurricanes before they arrived in South Carolina for this event. Thursday saw Miami easily take care of Tulane as well, perhaps not as handily, but still a 74-54 win nonetheless to remain undefeated through three games.

As for the Seahawks, they had experienced just the opposite heading into this tournament, losing to both Appalachian State and George Washington. Yesterday UNCW was shooting for its first win in 2009-10 and managed to achieve that goal with a surprising 80-69 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions.

This is just the second game ever played between these two programs, with the first meeting going to UNCW by a score of 88-73 back in 1992 in Miami.

Dwayne Collins had a huge game for the Hurricanes with his 22 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots in the win over Tulane. While Collins shot just 6-of-11 at the free-throw line, he more than made up for it with a perfect 8-of-8 from the field as the team shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the outing. Adrian Thomas came off the bench to drop in 12 points, while Durand Scott and Malcolm Grant both accounted for 10 points in the win as well, the duo combining for nine of their 19 assists. After three games this team has four players scoring in double figures, starting with Collins (14.3 ppg), Grant (11.0 ppg), James Dews (10.3 ppg) and Thomas (10.3 ppg). Scott is handling the passing game with almost eight assists per contest and Collins is playing the beast in the middle with nearly 10 rebounds per game as well.

The Seahawks not only shot a sizzling 61.5 percent from the field in the first half, including 7-of-11 behind the three-point line, they also limited Penn State to an ugly 32.3 percent from the floor and 5-of-21 out on the perimeter for the entire contest yesterday. Chad Tomko was the top scorer for UNCW with his 21 points on 4-of-5 shooting behind the three-point line, yet the other starters for the Seahawks didn't exactly carry their weight. Off the bench this time around, Will Ohuaregbe chipped in 12 points and five boards. Tomko, who missed one of the earlier games for the Seahawks, is still the top scorer for the squad with his 17.0 ppg and has reached that level by shooting 52.6 percent from the floor. Showing an identical shooting percentage is Keith Rendleman (7.7 ppg) who paces the squad with better than eight rebounds per contest. yet the team is still getting beat on the glass by almost three rebounds per game.

The Seahawks caught lightning in a bottle yesterday and Miami isn't about to let that happen in back-to-back games, especially on its watch, so expect to see the Hurricanes blow through UNCW without much resistance.
