GAME NOTES: The Saint Joseph's Hawks made their way to Pittsburgh this afternoon for an Atlantic 10 clash against the Duquesne Dukes at the Palumbo Center.
The Hawks enter the tilt on a down note, as they suffered an 87-80 loss to Massachusetts on Wednesday. The defeat ended a three-game win streak and dropped SJU to 8-12 overall and 2-4 within the conference. To make matters worse, the Hawks now return to the road, where they are just 1-7, including 0-3 in conference play.
The Dukes meanwhile, are coming off a simply embarrassing performance, as they were pounded 86-50 at Xavier on Thursday. Duquesne has now dropped six of its past seven outings in falling to 10-10 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
As for the all-time series, SJU holds a 34-10 lead over Duquesne and that includes a 30-8 advantage in A-10 regular season games.
The Hawks were outscored at the foul line, 19-12, and dominated on the boards, 44-31, as they were downed by UMass earlier in the week. Garrett Williamson paced the team in defeat with an all-around effort of 16 points, 10 assists and six steals. Idris Hilliard tacked on 14 points and six boards, while Todd O'Brien had 12 points and eight rebounds. Darrin Govens chipped in with nine points before fouling out and he leads SJU in scoring on the season with 12.8 ppg. Williamson contributes 11.6 ppg and a team-best 3.9 apg for the Hawks, while Hilliard logs 10.6 ppg and 5.3 rpg.
The Dukes were simply dismantled on Thursday, as they shot a paltry 32.8 percent from the floor, including just 4-of-24 from downtown, in a 36-point loss at Xavier. The team was also dominated on the boards, 47-26, in the setback. Melquan Bolding was the only player to reach double figures for Duquesne, finishing with 14 points and five boards. Damian Saunders had just six points, but he did post eight boards, four steals and two blocks. One of the most versatile players in the A-10, Saunders leads the Dukes with 14.7 ppg, 12.5 rpg, 55 steals and 64 blocks on the campaign. Bill Clark follows with 13.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg and he is trailed by B.J. Monteiro, who checks in with 11.1 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
Duquesne is coming off a miserable performance, but look for Saunders and company to rebound with a victory over a SJU club that struggles on the road.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
