Connecticut (13-8) at Louisville (13-8)

GAME NOTES: The Connecticut Huskies square off with the Louisville Cardinals tonight in a Big East showdown at Freedom Hall.

The Huskies are coming off two straight losses following a week in which they defeated then No.1 Texas to move back into the Top 25. The team was first handled at Providence, 81-66, on Wednesday before falling to Marquette, 70-68, at home on Saturday. UConn has now dropped five of its past seven outings, as it sits at 13-8 overall and only 3-5 in the Big East.

As for the Cardinals, they too have struggled of late, winning only one of their last five outings. Most recently, the defending Big East champions were edged, 77-74, at nationally-ranked West Virginia on Saturday. Louisville is now 13-8 overall and 4-4 within the conference.

In regard to the all-time series, UConn holds a 5-2 lead over Louisville, including a 63-51 victory in Freedom Hall last season.

Marquette's Jimmy Butler hit a running jumper with 2.8 seconds left, sending UConn to a heart-breaking 70-68 loss on Saturday. The Huskies shot a solid 49.0 percent from the floor and dominated the boards, 44-25, but committed 16 turnovers compared to only three by Marquette. Jerome Dyson paced the team in defeat with 18 points and four boards, while Kemba Walker had 15 points and six assists. On the season, Dyson tops the roster in scoring at 19.0 ppg and he is also grabbing 4.7 rpg and dishing out 4.8 apg. Stanley Robinson tacks on 16.6 ppg and 7.4 rpg for UConn, while Walker adds 13.5 ppg and a team-high 6.2 apg. When the Huskies need a spark off the bench they turn to Gavin Edwards, who contributes 10.7 ppg and 6.5 rpg.

The Cardinals led by as many as 12 points in the second half, but could not hang on, as WVU used an 11-0 run and a go-ahead bucket by Da'Sean Butler with 16 seconds left to rally for the 77-74 decision on Saturday. Louisville shot a sound 51.9 percent from the floor, including 9-of-19 from long range, but committed 17 turnovers and was outscored at the foul line, 26-9. Reginald Delk and Samardo Samuels each turned in 16 points and six boards to lead the Cardinals, while Peyton Siva pitched in with 14 points. Samuels leads Louisville in scoring (15.9 ppg) as well as rebounding (7.5 rpg) for the season and he also shoots 54.0 percent from the field. Edgar Sosa, a 39.5 percent three-point shooter, is another option for the Cardinals with 13.5 ppg and 3.8 apg to his credit.

Both these teams are fading and can ill afford to fall any further behind in a strong Big East Conference. The Cardinals are hosting this game and that should help them get past a UConn club that has yet to win a true road bout this season.
