Eastern Michigan (10-10) at Akron (15-6)

GAME NOTES: Tied for the top spot in the East Division of the Mid-American Conference, the Akron Zips try to extend their current win streak to three in a row as they welcome the Eastern Michigan Eagles to Rhodes Arena.

Akron, which has won three of the last four games and is now 5-2 in MAC play and tied with Kent State for first place in the division, topped Toledo on Saturday night with a convincing 59-45 victory. With the triumph, the Zips moved to 10-2 on their own floor in 2009-10.

As for the Eagles, now an even 10-10 on the season, they've dropped two in a row and four of their last five games. On Saturday, the squad was downed by Miami-Ohio in a 61-51 final on the road.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, Eastern Michigan records show that the Eagles trail Akron by a count of 17-15 heading into this meeting.

Although it wouldn't have made enough of a difference, the fact that Eastern Michigan shot only 5-of-13 at the free-throw line in the 10-point loss to Miami-Ohio over the weekend was still devastating. Justin Dobbins, who made only half of his six attempts at the stripe, finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Brandon Bowdry and Carlos Medlock both tallied 10 points, the former accounting for nine boards and three assists as well. Bowdry, a starter in 18 of the 20 games he's played this season, is shooting close to 50 percent from the floor to come up with his 16.5 ppg, while also capturing 10.0 rpg to lead the group in that department as well. Medlock (14.9 ppg) and Dobbins (12.2 ppg) are also important pieces for the EMU offense, even though the group has been limited to just 66.0 ppg this season.

The Zips started out a bit slow against Toledo over the weekend, but by the time the teams reached the break it was clear the Rockets were overmatched with just six field goals to their credit. In fact, when the game finally ended, Akron had forced almost as many turnovers (17) as it allowed baskets (18) by the visitors. Anthony Hitchens led the offense for the home team with 13 points, hitting 3-of-6 behind the three-point line, while Nikola Cvetinovic accounted for 10 points and six boards for a team that survived just 5-of-23 shooting out on the perimeter and 6-of-14 at the free-throw line. Brett McKnight remains the top scorer for Akron, putting up 9.9 ppg for a squad that has one of the most balanced offenses in the land. One would think that not having a double-digit scorer would make things difficult, but the Zips have still found a way to come up with 70.0 ppg, while limiting the opposition to 62.2 ppg.

Hitting the road hasn't been easy for the Eagles this season, the team winning just twice on an opponent's floor, so expect to see Akron have the advantage in this encounter as a result.
