(9) Texas (18-3) at Oklahoma State (16-5)

GAME NOTES: The suddenly slumping Texas Longhorns desperately need a victory, although getting it tonight against a very good Oklahoma State team, on the road, will be difficult.

Texas opened the season with 17 consecutive victories and was an overwhelming favorite to reach the Final Four. Since then, however, the Longhorns have hit a rough patch, as three of the last four games have resulted in defeat. On Saturday, they fell to Baylor in overtime by an 80-77 final. Texas is 4-2 in Big 12 Conference action.

Oklahoma State carried a three-game win streak into Saturday's clash with Missouri, but that road affair resulted in a 95-80 defeat. Fortunately, the Cowboys now return home where they are a perfect 11-0. They are 16-5 overall this season, including 4-3 in the Big 12.

Texas owns a 40-35 in the all-time series with Oklahoma State, and the 'Horns have won six of the last seven meetings.

Through 21 games, Texas is scoring 85.3 ppg on 48.2 percent shooting from the floor. Defensively, the Longhorns are limiting opponents to 67.5 ppg on 38.5 percent field goal efficiency. Damion James is clearly the best player in the lineup for the 'Horns, as he is averaging 18.2 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Avery Bradley has emerged as the second-leading scorer for the squad, as he is posting 12.2 ppg. The third and final double-digit scorer for Texas is Dexter Pittman, a rugged forward/center who brings 12.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 47 blocks to the mix. Unfortunately for the Longhorns, they shot just 38.6 percent from the floor against Baylor on Saturday, and 18 turnovers hurt the cause as well. James posted 20 points, 19 rebounds and four steals in defeat.

James Anderson is scoring 22.5 ppg this season for Oklahoma State, as he is one of the most explosive offensive performers in the Big 12. Obi Muonelo is netting 12.7 ppg on 46 percent shooting from three-point range, and Marshall Moses provides 10.6 ppg and 9.9 rpg. The Cowboys are putting up 74.6 ppg while limiting opponents to 65.9 ppg on 41 percent shooting. Anderson was outstanding against Missouri on Saturday, as he poured in 31 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Matt Pilgrim was impressive as well, scoring 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. Despite the efforts of those players, OSU turned the ball over 24 times and permitted Mizzou to shoot 52.3 percent from the field, the two most obvious contributing factors in the loss. The Tigers knocked down 17 three-pointers.

It is hard to side with Texas in this game, as the club is clearly struggling. Still, the Longhorns are just too talented to drop their fourth outing in the last five tries.
