GAME NOTES: For the 129th time, Bradley and Drake will duke it out on the hardwood, as the Braves host the Bulldogs this evening in Missouri Valley Conference play at Carver Arena.
The Bulldogs took a bite out of Creighton in their last contest, as they defeated the Bluejays, 79-74. It was the sixth win in the last seven games for Drake, which is now 6-5 in conference action.
As for the Braves, they fell to 5-6 in MVC play after losing to Illinois State, 66-47, on Saturday. It was the second straight setback for Bradley, which is a mediocre 6-4 at home this year.
Bradley pushed its lead over Drake in the all-time series to 76-52 with a 67-59 victory over the Bulldogs earlier this season.
The Bulldogs had everything working for them in their recent win over Creighton, as they shot 50.0 percent from the floor, en route to a 79-point performance. Drake connected on 9-of-20 attempts from behind the arc, and also made 22-of-26 shots from the foul line. Josh Young, Ryan Wedel, and Seth Van Deest each tallied 20 points, while Frank Wiseler posted 10 points and seven assists. Young and Wedel have been the top two players on the floor for Drake, as young is netting 13.5 ppg, while Wedel is helping out with 11.5 ppg. Despite the strong performance last time out, the Bulldogs overall are netting a modest 68.1 ppg.
The Braves were ice cold in their last matchup, as the team shot a woeful 28.6 percent from the field, while finishing with just 47 points against Illinois State. Bradley made 14-of-18 attempts from the charity stripe, but made only 5-of-21 attempts from behind the arc. Andrew Warren was just 3-of-12 from the field, but was the only player in double figures for Bradley with 11 points. Warren has been the main option on the floor for Bradley, as the guard is netting 14.6 ppg. However, he has received help from Taylor Brown, who is posting 13.4 ppg, to go along with a team-best 6.8 rpg. Bradley has been rather inconsistent offensively, netting just 66.7 ppg.
The Braves have suffered two straight setbacks, but look for the team to bounce back this evening at home. The Braves got the better of the Bulldogs earlier this season on the road, and should do even better in front of a home crowd.
