Miami-Florida (16-5) at Wake Forest (14-5)

GAME NOTES: The Miami-Florida Hurricanes have traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for tonight's ACC clash with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Miami opened the season with wins in 15 of its first 16 games, but the squad carried a four-game losing streak into Sunday's matchup with Virginia Tech. Fortunately, the Hurricanes got back on track with an 82-75 triumph over the Hokies, enabling them to move to 16-5 overall and 2-5 in ACC action. Miami has played six true road games entering this evening's affair, and four of those have resulted in defeat.

Last Thursday, Wake Forest was completely embarrassed in a 79-58 loss to Georgia Tech. The blowout was certainly unexpected, as the Demon Deacons were coming off back-to-back, double-digit victories over conference foes. They are now 14-5 overall, including 4-3 in league play, and carry a 9-1 home record into tonight's tilt.

The Hurricanes recorded a thrilling 67-66 decision over Wake Forest last month, but the Demon Deacons still hold a 7-3 edge in the all-time series.

Through 21 games, Miami is scoring 75.2 ppg on the strength of its 47.6 percent shooting from the floor, and the club is limiting opponents to 62.8 ppg on 39.8 percent shooting. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes are being outscored by an average of 7.4 ppg in ACC action. James Dews continues to pace the squad in scoring with 12.5 ppg, and Dwayne Collins checks in with 12.0 ppg and 8.6 rpg. As for Malcolm Grant, he provides 10.4 ppg. In the much-needed win over Virginia Tech, Dews scored 21 points on the strength of a 5-of-7 shooting effort. The 'Canes made good on 63.2 percent of their field goal attempts in that tilt, including a 9-of-17 showing from three-point range. A 25-of-32 effort from the foul line also helped the cause for Miami, which overcame 20 turnovers.

The top offensive performer for Wake Forest this season is Al-Farouq Aminu, as he provides 16.8 ppg to go along with 11.3 rpg. Ishmael Smith checks in with 13.4 ppg and 110 assists, while C.J. Harris rounds out a threesome of double- digit scorers with 11.3 ppg. The Demon Deacons are generating 75.7 ppg while holding opponents to 67.9 ppg on 37.7 percent shooting from the field. Also worthy of mention is the fact that they are outrebounding foes by 5.5 rpg. In the blowout loss to Georgia Tech, Wake surrendered 53.7 percent shooting while making good on just 32.8 percent of its shots. A 43-34 rebounding disadvantage obviously didn't help, and neither did 52 percent accuracy from the foul line. Aminu finished with 15 points, while Smith scored 12 points.

In what figures to be a competitive contest, give the edge to the home team. Wake is undoubtedly eager to get back to action after getting crushed by Georgia Tech.
