Northeastern (14-8) at Delaware (6-16)

GAME NOTES: Trying to make it a clean sweep against Delaware this season, the Northeastern Huskies take on the Blue Hens in a Colonial Athletic Association outing tonight at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Northeastern, which entered the week close to the top of the CAA standings along with George Mason and Old Dominion, is coming off a 74-64 win over the aforementioned Monarchs at home on Saturday afternoon. The victory was the 12th in the last 13 decisions for the Huskies who, during an 11-game win streak, also defeated Delaware by a score of 59-55 at home in the first meeting of the season between the schools a few weeks back.

As for the Blue Hens, they've been all over the map in 2009-10, losing big one night and then going to overtime (five times) the next. Three days ago the squad was turned back by Hofstra at the Mack Sports Complex in a 77-67 final. The defeat was the second in a row and the eighth in nine tries.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools, Delaware still owns an 18-16 advantage over the Huskies, despite losing the first meeting of the campaign last month.

Chaisson Allen converted 7-of-10 shots from the floor, including 3-of-4 behind the three-point line, as he came up with a game-high 19 points in the win over Old Dominion a few days ago at home. Matt Janning, who handed out seven assists, added 17 points and Manny Adako 13 points and eight boards as the team shot almost 60 percent from the field and 9-of-16 beyond the arc on the afternoon. The Huskies, who are scoring a mere 65.8 ppg this season, have four players scoring in double figures, led by Janning with his 15.0 ppg and Allen who is posting 14.0 ppg while handing out a team-best 85 assists and grabbing nearly five rebounds per outing, all while shooting a sizzling 45.8 percent behind the three-point line.

Making a total of just seven field goals in the first half against Hofstra on Saturday afternoon, the Blue Hens put themselves in a hole from which they were unable to climb out of in the 10-point road loss. Jawan Carter scored a team-best 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out four assists, while Adam Pegg and Alphonso Dawson both chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively, even though the latter made a mere 3-of-13 shots from the field. Carter, the leading scorer in each of the last three games, is hitting for a team-best 17.8 ppg in 2009-10, doing most of his damage at the free-throw line where he has converted 114-of-144. Handing out 109 assists in 22 starts, sometimes it is safer for Carter to give up the ball than it is for him to fire up shots from the floor where he has been only 37.6 percent accurate. Dawson checks in with 12.4 ppg as the only other double-digit scorer for a team that is being outscored by almost nine points per game at the moment.

Even though Dawson and Carter always have the potential to put up points, Delaware is not at a stage where it is going to take down a CAA opponent that has something bigger awaiting them down the road.
