GAME NOTES: The Rhode Island Rams and La Salle Explorers go head-to-head tonight in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup at Tom Gola Arena.
The Rams enter the contest on a high note, as they defeated George Washington, 72-66, on Saturday. It was the second win in a row and the fifth in six games for URI, which continues to roll and now stands at 17-3 overall. The Rams have also had good success on the road, where they have gone 7-2 thus far.
La Salle meanwhile, is coming off a 64-52 setback to rival and nationally- ranked Temple on Saturday. The defeat was the second in three games, as the squad dipped to 11-10 overall and 3-4 within the conference. The Explorers have had mixed results at home this season, wining five games and losing three.
As for the all-time series, URI holds a commanding 20-4 advantage over La Salle and the Rams have won each of the past four meetings in the relationship.
The Rams connected on 9-of-21 attempts from long range compared to a 3-of-6 showing from the same distance by George Washington, as they picked up a 72-66 win over the weekend. URI also shot 43.9 percent from the field, in addition to forcing 20 turnovers. Keith Cothran led the way with 14 points and five boards, while Lamonte Ulmer had 10 points and six rebounds. On the season, Cothran tops the roster in scoring at 16.3 ppg and he also has 32 steals to his name. Delroy James ranks second with each 13.9 ppg and 5.6 rpg, while Ulmer checks in with 11.9 ppg and a team-high 7.4 rpg.
The Explorers shot a horrific 29.8 percent from the floor, including 6-of-19 from long range, as they were downed by Temple this past weekend. La Salle also turned the ball over 11 times and those giveaways resulted in 19 points for Temple. Rodney Green scored 13 points and dished out five assists to lead the team in the loss, while Aaric Murray and Yves Mekongo each chipped in with 11 points. For the season, Green leads the Explorers in scoring at 18.3 ppg and he is also collecting 5.0 rpg and distributing a team-high 4.2 apg. Murray tacks on 12.6 ppg, to go with a team-best 7.0 rpg, while Mekongo produces 11.3 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
URI is the more explosive team here and should be able to outlast La Salle on the road tonight.
