St. John's (12-8) at Rutgers (10-11)

GAME NOTES: The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will try to build off their first Big East win of the campaign, as they host the St. John's Red Storm tonight at the RAC.

There are no more winless teams in the Big East, as Rutgers finally ended its drought with a 74-73 nipping of Notre Dame on Saturday. The victory snapped a nine-game slide for the Knights, who last won against Saint Peter's back on December 22nd. Rutgers is still just 10-11 overall and a dismal 1-8 in the Big East, but is coming off a confidence booster.

As for the Red Storm, they faced their third straight ranked opponent on Thursday and suffered their third consecutive loss in a 63-53 setback at Pittsburgh. It was the fifth straight defeat on the road for SJU, which is now 12-8 overall and just 2-6 in Big East action.

SJU leads the head-to-head series with Rutgers, 23-11, and the Red Storm has won the last three meetings.

The Red Storm coughed up the ball 15 times and shot a paltry 32.8 percent from the floor, as they were handled by Pitt last week. SJU actually led 28-24 at the half, but just couldn't keep pace with a more talented Pitt squad. Justin Burrell guided SJU in the loss with 14 points and nine boards, while Dwight Hardy chipped in with 12 points. D.J. Kennedy had nine points and eight boards and he leads the team in scoring (15.0 ppg) and assists (3.2 apg), to go with 6.4 rpg for the season. Hardy follows with 11.9 ppg and he is the team's top option from beyond the arc, hitting at a 41.3 percent clip.

All five starters for Rutgers reached double figures, including Mike Rosario, who poured in 24 points to power the Knights past Notre Dame on Saturday. Dane Miller and Jonathan Mitchell each turned in 12 points, while Hamady Ndiaye and James Beatty both finished with 10 points. Miller also hauled in 10 caroms for a double-double and Ndiaye posted six blocks, including two in the final minute to help secure the 74-73 win. For the season, Rosario paces the Knights with an average of 15.7 ppg and he is also grabbing 4.3 rpg. Mitchell tacks on 11.0 ppg and 5.2 rpg, while Ndiaye contributes 9.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg and 4.7 blocks per game.

The Knights are coming off a much-needed win, and look for them to use that momentum to down the Red Storm in another close one tonight.
