George Mason (15-7) at Georgia State (9-14)

GAME NOTES: George Mason will try to remain on top of the Colonial Athletic Association when the Patriots take on the Georgia State Panthers this evening at the GSU Sports Center.

The Patriots head into this matchup red-hot, as the team has won seven straight games, including a 70-68 decision over James Madison in its last contest. With the victory over the Dukes, the Patriots pushed their CAA record to a league best 10-1 on the season.

As for the Panthers, they have lost eight of their last nine games, including three in a row. The last time Georgia State was on the court the team suffered a 78-62 setback to Virginia Commonwealth. The loss to the Rams left the Panthers with a meager 3-8 record in league play.

The Patriots have won five of the six all-time meetings against Georgia State, and that includes a 52-49 decision back in January.

The Patriots almost let one slip away the last time they were on the floor, but the team was able to hold on for a two-point victory over James Madison. George Mason shot 46.7 percent from the field in the match and was led by Cam Long, who erupted for 23 points. Long has been the best player on the floor for George Mason throughout the season and is currently leading the way with 13.6 ppg and 68 assists. Ryan Pearson is contributing 12.1 ppg on the season for GMU and is collecting a team-high 6.8 rpg. As a whole however, the Patriots have been nothing special at the offensive end of the court, as the team is netting just 67.2 ppg, behind a mediocre 43.2 percent shooting effort.

Performing at the offensive end of the court has been a major issue for Georgia State, as the Panthers are netting just 61.2 ppg, behind a 41.5 percent shooting effort. Joe Dukes is currently pacing the team with 13.7 ppg and is also pulling down 5.5 rpg. Trae Goldston is the only other player netting double figures, as the guar d is averaging 11.0 ppg. The Panthers' offensive woes continued in the team's recent loss to Virginia Commonwealth, as Georgia State tallied just 62 points behind a 38.1 percent shooting effort. Dukes led the way in the setback with 17 points, while Xavier Hansbro and James Fields posted 10 points apiece.

The Panthers might be home, but the crowd will not have much to cheer about in this one. George Mason is clearly the better team and should have no trouble grabbing another league win.
