GAME NOTES: The Hofstra Pride will try to remain in the win column when they take on the James Madison Dukes in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at the Convocation Center.
The last time the Pride were on the floor the team grabbed a 77-67 decision over Delaware, pushing its conference mark to just 4-7. It was the second straight win for Hofstra, which is a mere 2-7 on the road this season.
As for the Dukes, they fell to 3-8 in CAA action, after falling to George Mason, 70-68. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for JMU, which has collected seven of its 10 victories at home.
The Dukes won the first four meetings in the all-time series, but since then it has been all Hofstra, which has claimed a win in the last 10 showdowns, including a thrilling, 99-96 double-overtime win in the last matchup.
The Pride put forth a strong effort in their recent matchup, shooting 43.4 percent from the field, while also connecting 28-of-36 attempts from the charity stripe, en route to a 10-point win over Delaware. Charles Jenkins poured in 27 points in the win, while Chaz Williams added 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Jenkins has been the only true consistent scoring threat on the court for Hofstra, as the guard is leading the team with 18.9 ppg, to go along with 91 assists. As a whole however, the team has been nothing special offensively, averaging a pedestrian 68.1 ppg.
James Madison shot 50.0 percent from the field in its last matchup, but committed 20 turnovers in a loss to George Mason. Denzel Bowles was outstanding in the loss, posting a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds, to go along with six assists. Julius Wells added 19 points, but also committed eight turnovers, while Ben Louis and Matt Parker chipped in 10 points apiece. Bowles has been the top scoring threat for James Madison, as the forward is pacing the team with 21.0 ppg, and 9.9 rpg. Wells is contributing 16.9 ppg on the season, but as a whole the team is netting just 66.5 ppg.
The Dukes are coming off a tough loss against George Mason, but look for them to bounce back this evening when they host the Pride. It most likely will not be a high-scoring affair, but JMU should reign supreme.
