NC State (14-8) at Virginia (13-6)

GAME NOTES: The NC State Wolfpack invade Charlottesville to take on the Virginia Cavaliers in an ACC battle.

NC State managed to halt a two-game skid on Saturday with a 77-42 romp over non-conference foe NC Central. The Wolfpack are 14-8 overall, but that record is clearly overshadowed by a 2-5 mark in league action.

Virginia carried a two-game slide into Sunday's meeting with North Carolina on the road, and nearly everyone was surprised to see the Cavaliers crush the Tar Heels in a 75-60 final. UVA is now 13-6 overall, and the club is 4-2 in league action. Twelve of the team's 19 games have come at home, and 10 of those have resulted in wins.

The Cavs beat NC State by a 70-62 final on January 9th, but the Wolfpack still own a commanding 80-55 advantage in the all-time series between the teams.

Tracy Smith is the top performer for NC State, as he is netting 17.7 ppg on 57.1 percent shooting from the floor to go along with 8.3 rpg. Dennis Horner provides 12.2 ppg, and Javier Gonzalez brings 10.2 ppg and 88 assists to the mix. The Wolfpack are generating 71.1 ppg while limiting opponents to 65.3 ppg on 41.3 percent shooting from the field. NC State connected on 60 percent of its field goal attempts last time out and crushed NC Central as expected, limiting the overmatched opponent to 26.5 percent shooting. A 36-24 rebounding advantage certainly helped the cause, as did a 21-12 edge in points from the foul line. Smith scored 23 points in 30 minutes on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, and Horner pitched in 13 points.

Virginia is scoring 70.6 ppg this season while limiting opponents 61.6 ppg on 42.7 percent field goal efficiency. There is no doubt who gets the ball in clutch situations, as Sylven Landesberg has been the go-to guy offensively since he stepped on campus. Landesberg is generating 18.2 ppg, including an even more impressive 21.3 ppg in league play. Mike Scott checks in with 13.1 ppg and 7.1 rpg, while Sammy Zeglinski adds 10.5 ppg. Landesberg exploded for 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the floor in the victory over North Carolina on Sunday. Zeglinski posted 19 points, while Scott added 11 points. The Cavs shot 51.9 percent from the floor and limited UNC to 35.7 percent field goal efficiency.

There is no doubt that Virginia is confident after the win over UNC. Considering the fact that the Cavs beat the Wolfpack in Raleigh last month, a similar result is likely in Charlottesville.
