St. Bonaventure (9-10) at Saint Louis (12-8)

GAME NOTES: Nearly undefeated at home this season in Chaifetz Arena, the Saint Louis Billikens welcome the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure to town for an Atlantic 10 Conference bout this evening.

The Billikens are 11-1 this season in their own building, but this is just the second game at home for the squad in the last six contests. On Saturday, Saint Louis completed a brief two-game road trip with a woeful 62-36 loss at Richmond. The defeat was the second in a row and the third in the last four games for a team that is now just 3-3 in league action.

As for the Bonnies, currently a game under .500 overall and just 2-4 in conference, they suffered their second straight loss on Saturday with a 75-58 setback at the hands of the Dayton Flyers at home. Tonight the team is trying to prevent a second three-game slide inside of just over a month.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Billikens lead by a count of 6-3, but the most recent meeting from a season ago turned into an easy win for the Bonnies by a score of 72-55.

Malcolm Eleby came off the bench and played 28 minutes for the Bonnies on Saturday at the Reilly Center, finishing with a team-best 13 points, but it wasn't nearly enough in the 17-point loss to the Flyers. Michael Davenport pitched in with 10 points, but between the two they shot only 7-of-21 from the floor. What's worse is that St. Bonnies converted only 4-of-19 beyond the arc and 12-of-24 at the free-throw line. Watching from the sidelines was leading scorer Andrew Nicholson (16.7 ppg) with an illness and as of Yesterday it didn't appear as though he would be ready to rejoin his teammates on the floor. If that's the case, it means that Jonathan Hall (11.8 ppg) and Chris Matthews (11.3 ppg) will have to shoulder more of the scoring burden for a team that is barely getting by with just 30.1 percent shooting beyond the arc and 65.1 percent at the charity stripe entering the week.

The Saint Louis offense sank to all-time lows on Saturday in Richmond as the team failed to make a single three-point basket (0-of-10) and was also 0-of-3 at the free-throw line in the loss to the Spiders. Kwamain Mitchell was the lone bright spot for the visitors with his 18 points, but he also had four of the school's unsightly 23 turnovers. Willie Reed chipped in 10 points and Jon Smith a career-high 11 rebounds as he went scoreless on five shot attempts. With their lowest scoring output of the season behind them, the Billikens can now focus on holding opponents to minimal points, something they've done to the rune of just 58.8 ppg this season already. Mitchell (15.7 ppg), who is tied for the team lead with his 54 assists over 19 starts, has made more three-point baskets than anyone else on the roster (29-of-93), but the squad as a whole has converted just 31.1 percent out on the perimeter. Nevertheless, that lackluster effort is still miles ahead of the competition at 26.2 percent this year.

The Billikens are a team that can be hot and cold depending on the opponent and location of the game, but if Nicholson is not ready to play for the Bonnies it might not make a difference.
