GAME NOTES: The Missouri Tigers try to extend one of the nation's longest home win streaks tonight as they tangle with the Aggies of Texas A&M in Big 12 Conference action at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Entering the week Missouri was tied with Siena for the second-longest homecourt run in the nation, trailing only Kansas (54), with 32 straight victories. The Tigers are also trying to secure back-to-back wins overall for the first time in several weeks after posting a 95-80 win against Oklahoma State at home on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are a team that knows what it is like to be successful at home, having taken all 13 home dates so far in 2009-10. The most recent of those came Saturday night with the squad's 85-70 victory over Texas Tech, giving A&M three wins in the last four games overall.
Missouri leads the all-time series with the Aggies by a count of 11-7, but it was A&M that posted a 96-86 win in College Station last year in the most recent encounter.
Texas A&M picked the perfect game to set a new attendance record as the squad survived just 2-of-16 shooting behind the three-point line to come up with the 15-point victory over Texas Tech. Donald Sloan was credited with a team-best 28 points, David Loubeau added 19 and nine boards off the bench and Bryan Davis 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots as the squad played a near flawless game in terms of ball handling with just four turnovers. Sloan, the leading scorer in each of the last five games for the Aggies, is averaging not only 18.5 ppg overall on the season, when it comes to taking on Big 12 foes he has bumped that number up to 20.6 ppg. The other active, double-digit scorer for A&M, at least when it comes to conference matchups, is Davis with his 11.7 ppg, shooting an impressive 60.4 percent from the floor, but also a lackluster 43.9 percent at the free-throw line. As a group, the Aggies are hitting just 65.2 percent of their free-throw chances this entire season.
Except for shooting a meager 10-of-20 at the free-throw line and turning the ball over 14 times, everything went right for the Tigers over the weekend as they put five players in double figures against Oklahoma State at home. Kim English led the way with 20 points, followed by reserve Laurence Bowers with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Zaire Taylor accounted for 14 points, while Michael Dixon and Marcus Denmon posted 12 points apiece and combined to make 8-of-12 shots behind the three-point line. In the last four games the Tigers have had a different leading scorer each time out, something that is bound to happen given that Missouri is one of the top scoring teams in the nation with 81.5 ppg, while giving up just 64.9 ppg over the course of 21 outings. English is responsible for 14.8 ppg, followed by Bowers and Denmon with 10.9 ppg apiece as the team thrives on defense more than anything, limiting opponents to just 39.8 percent shooting from the floor and 29.6 percent accuracy out on the perimeter.
The Tigers are bound to have their streak at home snapped at some point, but given how well the team spreads the wealth, it will take a huge defensive effort by A&M to make it happen on this night.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
