Tulane (6-14) at Rice (7-13)

GAME NOTES: Two struggling teams in Conference-USA play will do battle this evening, when the Rice Owls host the Tulane Green Wave at the Tudor Fieldhouse.

The Green Wave are in desperate need of a victory, as the team has dropped four straight matchups and seven of its last eight contests. The last time the team was on the floor Tulane suffered a 58-40 setback to Southern Mississippi, falling to 1-6 in league play.

The last time out for the Owls, they grabbed their first league victory with a 69-58 decision over East Carolina. The win snapped a seven-game slide for Rice, which has grabbed six of its seven wins at home.

This is a tightly contested series, with the Green Wave holding a 22-21 edge over the Owls.

The Green Wave had nothing go their way in their last matchup, as the team shot just 28.2 percent from the field, and finished with just 40 points in a loss to Southern Mississippi. Tulane connected on just 4-of-21 attempts from behind the arc and finished only 14-of-22 from the foul line.Jordan Callahan led the way with 12 points, while Kris Richard added 11 points. Richard is currently the only player averaging double figures on the season, as the guard is posting 12.3 ppg. Considering Richard is the only player on the roster averaging double figures it should not be surprising that the team is only netting 62.9 ppg.

The Owls have also struggled offensively this season, netting just 64.5 ppg, behind a pedestrian 40.1 percent shooting effort. Tamir Jackson is currently leading the team with 11.9 ppg and 3.0 apg, while Arsalan Kazemi is posting 10.6 ppg, to go along with a team-best 8.6 rpg. The last time Rice was in action the team scored only 69 points, but that was enough for the team to slip past East Carolina. The Owls shot 43.3 percent from the floor and also connected on 7-of-19 attempts from long range Jackson and Trey Stanton finished with 18 points apiece, while Stanton also collected eight rebounds. As for Kazemi, he helped out with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Neither team has played well this season, and they have a combined two conference wins. However, the Owls are home and should have a slight edge in this contest.
