Arizona State (15-7) at Washington State (14-7)

GAME NOTES: The Arizona State Sun Devils invade Friel Court in Pullman this evening for a Pac-10 Conference clash with the Washington State Cougars.

Arizona State carried a two-game skid into Saturday's meeting with Stanford. Fortunately for the Sun Devils, they recorded an 88-70 victory over the Cardinal. They are now 15-7 overall, including 5-4 in Pac-10 action, and tonight they hope to even their road record at 3-3.

Washington State needs to get back on track, as the team has suffered back-to- back double-digit losses. The Cougars were completely dominated on Saturday by a final of 92-64 by rival Washington. Although WSU is 14-7 overall, the club is just 4-5 in conference.

On January 10th, Arizona State crushed Washington State by a 71-46 final to increase its narrow lead in the all-time series to 34-32.

The Sun Devils are a rather mediocre offensive team, as they are netting 69.0 ppg through 22 games. Fortunately, they have excelled at the defensive end, limiting opponents to 57.5 ppg on 39.5 percent shooting from the floor. Rihards Kuksiks leads ASU with 12.8 ppg, and Ty Abbott is netting 11.5 ppg. The third and final double-digit scorer on the roster is Derek Glasser with 10.1 ppg. On Saturday, Arizona State shot 65.6 percent from the floor in the first half against Stanford, including 10-of-18 from three-point range. Even though the Sun Devils weren't nearly as efficient in the second half, their 32-point halftime lead was plenty. Abbott was sensational in that tilt, as he poured in 29 points on the strength of a 7-of-9 effort from three-point range. The standout guard also pulled down 12 rebounds.

Klay Thompson is clearly one of the most talented offensive players in the Pac-10, as the Washington State standout is netting 21.6 ppg. Reggie Moore is posting 14.3 ppg, and he is the only other double-digit scorer on the roster. The Cougars are generating 76.1 ppg while limiting foes to 72.0 ppg. They struggled mightily at the offensive end against Washington on Saturday, shooting just 32.3 percent from the floor. They were outrebounded by a 52-38 margin and outscored 23-18 from the foul line. Xavier Thames scored 15 points in that tilt, while Moore and Nikola Koprivica added 13 points apiece. Thompson struggled mightily in that affair, as he scored a mere seven points on 2-of-15 shooting from the field.

Expect a big effort from Thompson tonight, as he will carry the Cougars to victory. This one will be close.
