California (14-7) at U-S-C (12-9)

GAME NOTES: The California Golden Bears will attempt to complete the season sweep of the USC Trojans this evening in a Pac-10 Conference duel from the Galen Center in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, California carried a three-game win streak into a matchup with Arizona. Unfortunately for the Golden Bears, they were on the short end of a 76-72 decision. That loss dropped them to 14-7 overall, including 6-3 in league play. Cal is an impressive 11-1 at home, but the squad is just 3-4 in true road games.

USC comes into tonight's game desperate for a victory, as the club has suffered back-to-back losses to fall to 4-5 in conference, overshadowing a more impressive 12-9 overall record. The Trojans, who are 8-3 at home, fell to 1-6 in true road games with a 67-57 loss at Oregon on Saturday.

California owns a 127-118 series advantage over USC, which includes a 67-59 victory over the Trojans in the first meeting this season.

Through 21 games, Cal is scoring 78.7 ppg while limiting opponents to 69.0 ppg. Jerome Randle is an outstanding performer who brings 18.9 ppg and 100 assists to the mix. Patrick Christopher pitches in 16.4 ppg, and Theo Robertson provides 14.2 ppg. Rounding out a foursome of double-digit scorers is Jamal Boykin with 11.3 ppg, and he is pulling down 6.5 rpg. Randle needs two three-pointers to set the program record for career three-pointers, and he also needs 26 assists to become just the third player in program history to record 500 assists. In the four-point loss to Arizona on Sunday, Cal connected on only 37.7 percent of its field goal attempts. Robertson was tremendous in defeat, as he scored 27 points in 35 minutes of action. Randle and Christopher both had 15 points.

USC is a tremendous defensive team which limits opponents to 56.0 ppg on 37.8 percent shooting from the floor. At the offensive end, the Trojans are netting 60.0 ppg, and they are also pulling down 4.5 rpg more than their foes. Dwight Lewis is scoring 13.7 ppg to pace USC, but his 40.4 percent shooting from the field could certainly stand some improvement. Nikola Vucevic provides 11.6 ppg and 9.6 rpg, and he is shooting 52.2 percent shooting from the floor. Marcus Johnson, the third and final double-digit scorer on the roster, adds 10.2 ppg. Lewis scored 16 points on Saturday in the loss to Oregon, and Mike Gerrity pitched in 12 points and five assists. As for Vucevic, he tallied 10 points and 14 rebounds. A 15-5 disadvantage in points from the foul line hurt the Trojans, who missed more free throws than they made.

These two teams are evenly matched and should produce an entertaining game. USC gets the edge as it will feed off the energy supplied by the home crowd.
