GAME NOTES: The Cajundome will be the venue for a Sun Belt Conference tussle, as the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns host the FIU Golden Panthers.
The Golden Panthers were outgunned the last time they were on the court, losing to Florida Atlantic, 106-88. It was the seventh loss in the last 10 games for FIU, which is a meager 3-12 on the road.
The Cajuns pushed their conference mark to 6-4 on the year with a 72-67 decision over UL-Monroe in their last contest. It was the fifth win in the last seven matchups for ULL, which has claimed six of its nine victories at home.
In regard to the all-time series between the two schools on the hardwood, the Cajuns own a 13-4 edge over FIU.
FIU's main problem this season has been its inability to play defense, as the team is allowing a generous 77.4 ppg. The team's defensive woes continued in its recent setback to Florida Atlantic, as the Golden Panthers surrendered 106 points in the setback. The poor effort defensively took away from the team's solid performance at the other end of the floor, as the Golden Panthers netted 88 points behind a 45.7 percent shooting effort. JC Otero led the way with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Phil Gary added 18 points. However, the team's top player, Marvin Roberts finished with just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting. Despite the poor showing, the forward is still averaging a team-best 16.0 ppg, to go along with 5.1 rpg.
The Cajuns have been rather inconsistent at the offensive end of the court this season, which is why the team is currently three games below .500. Tyren Johnson has been the best player for ULL, as the forward is netting 16.3 ppg, to go along with a team-best 8.6 rpg. Chris Gradnigo is helping out with 14.7 ppg, while Randell Daigle is posting 10.8 ppg. The last time the Cajuns were on the floor the team scored 72 points in a win over UL-Monroe. ULL shot 44.4 percent from the field and also made 22-of-28 attempts from the foul line. Johnson led the way in the victory with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while Raymone Andrews tallied 17 points.
Most teams have enjoyed playing FIU this year, and tonight should be no different for the Cajuns, who should put on a show for their fans in this matchup.
