GAME NOTES: The Kent State Golden Flashes will try to remain on top of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference when they battle the Eastern Michigan Eagles this evening at the Convocation Center.
The Golden Flashes have been red-hot and roll into this matchup with a five- game winning streak in tow. The last time Kent State was on the floor the team pushed its conference ledger to 6-2 with a convincing, 76-46 decision over Northern Illinois.
The last time the Eagles were in action the team grabbed a 62-59 victory over Akron. The win snapped the team's two-game slide and pushed Eastern Michigan's conference mark to 3-5. The majority of the team's success has come at home where the Eagles are 7-2 on the season.
The Golden Flashes have won the last 13 matchups against Eastern Michigan in the all-time series and now own a 35-30 edge over the Eagles.
The Golden Flashes put forth a suffocating defensive effort in their last matchup, as they held Northern Illinois to just 46 points, en route to a 30- point victory. KSU held NIU to just 29.5 percent shooting from the floor, and forced 23 turnovers. At the other end, the team was just as impressive, shooting 47.4 percent overall, led by Justin Greene's 18-point performance. Anthony Simpson added 12 points, while Randal Holt tallied 11 points. Chris Singletary was also solid, netting 10 points, to go along with eight rebounds and six assists. Greene has been the best player on the floor for Kent State, as the forward is leading the team with 13.4 ppg, and 6.5 rpg.
The Eagles have an 11-10 ledger on the season and the reason for the mediocre ledger is the team's inconsistent play offensively. Eastern Michigan is netting just 65.8 ppg thus far, and is being paced by Brandon Bowdry and Carlos Medlock. Bowdry is averaging 16.0 ppg and 9.8 rpg, while Medlock is contributing 14.7 ppg, to go along with a team-best 72 assists. The last time the Eagles were in action the team only scored 62 points, but that was good enough for them to slip past Akron. Eastern Michigan shot 44.2 percent from the floor in the contest and made 7-of-15 attempts from behind the arc. Jay Higgins led the way with 17 points, while Antonio Green tallied 14 points. Medlock and Justin Dobbins tallied 12 points apiece, while Bowdry struggled in the matchup, finishing with just seven points.
The Eagles are soaring high after grabbing a solid win on the road against Akron, but look for them to come back down to earth this evening against a very tough Kent State squad.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
