University of Portland (14-7) at (17) Gonzaga (17-4)

GAME NOTES: Fresh off a rare West Coast Conference defeat, the 17th-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs get back to action tonight against the University of Portland Pilots.

Wins in each of the last four games have enabled Portland to improve to 14-7 overall and 5-2 in West Coast Conference play. The Pilots have held three of their last four opponents to 58 or fewer points, and they certainly played tremendous defense in Saturday's 74-52 romp over Santa Clara.

As for Gonzaga, it had a 27-game WCC regular-season winning streak snapped with an 81-77 overtime loss to San Francisco on Saturday. Still, the Zags are enjoying another solid year, and they are 7-1 at home thus far.

Gonzaga barely beat Portland in an 81-78 final back on January 9th, and the Bulldogs own an 84-65 series advantage over the Pilots.

Portland's four-game win streak is a bit surprising considering that the team's leading scorer, Nik Raivio (14.1 ppg), has missed all four games with a strained right Achilles' tendon. He is expected to be held out of tonight's contest as well, but there are three other double-digit scorers in the fold that will continue to pick up the slack. T.J. Campbell is netting 13.3 ppg to go along with 117 assists, and Robin Smuelders provides 13.1 ppg and 6.5 rpg. As for Jared Stohl, he brings 11.1 ppg to the floor for the Pilots, who are generating 73.6 ppg while allowing 66.7 ppg. In the 22-point romp over Santa Clara last time out, Stohl scored 16 points, and Luke Sikma added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Portland shot 50.9 percent from the field, including 10-of-17 from three-point range, while holding the Broncos to 36 percent overall efficiency.

Matt Bouldin is the leading scorer for Gonzaga with 16.5 ppg this season, and Elias Harris is close behind with 16.3 ppg. Harris, a 58.1 percent shooter from the floor, is ripping down 8.5 rpg to lead the squad by a wide margin. Steven Gray checks in with 13.9 ppg, and Robert Sacre rounds out a foursome of double-digit scorers with 10.2 ppg. While the Bulldogs are racking up 79.0 ppg on 49.4 percent field goal efficiency, they are holding opponents to 69.6 ppg on 41.6 percent shooting. In the heart-breaking loss to San Francisco last time out, Harris tallied 21 points and eight rebounds, while Bouldin posted 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Sacre contributed 13 points for the Zags, who turned the ball over 16 times and missed five field goal attempts in the extra session.

Expect Gonzaga to complete the season sweep of Portland, as the Bulldogs are too good to lose a second consecutive outing to a conference opponent.
